The conference was attended by southern African liberation movements, as well as ruling parties or members of ruling coalitions in South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

The conference brought together the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, Swapo of Namibia, Zanu PF of Zimbabwe, Frelimo of Mozambique, the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) of Angola, the Botswana Democratic Party (BPD) of Botswana and Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) of Tanzania.

This is an opportunity to reaffirm the ideological foundation and historical role of southern African liberation movements in defending independence, dignity and development across the region, as well as their importance in a rapidly changing global order.

At the conference, delegates affirmed that the southern African liberation movements transformed the political landscape of the region, opposing colonialism and apartheid and ushering in people-centered governance. Since independence, these movements have implemented landmark policies on reform and social security. However, these achievements are being eroded.

The conference will promote a unified platform for countries to respond to threats, address contemporary challenges, and strengthen regional responses based on pan-Africanism, internationalism and multilateralism.

Speaking to VNA reporters, Mr. Manuel Domingos Augusto, Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee in charge of foreign affairs of the MPLA, said the importance of the liberation movement is receiving increasing attention, especially in the southern African region.

After gaining political independence, countries in the region are now fighting for economic independence, achieving true and complete independence. To achieve this goal, countries need to unite and work together to fight against control and interference from outside forces.
