To meet the increasing demand for electricity in Laos, Kon Tum Power Company (formerly) has continuously invested in grid infrastructure. In 2020, the unit put into operation the 110kV Bo Y transformer station with a capacity of 40MVA and a 23km long 22kV double-circuit line, creating an important turning point for stable power supply to Laos. Within 2 years, the commercial electricity output sold to Attapeu Power Branch increased more than 5 times (from nearly 8 million kWh in 2019 to over 39 million kWh in 2021).
Currently, the maximum capacity that Laos is receiving is more than 7.5MVA, equivalent to an average output of nearly 50 million kWh per year. In parallel with investing in sources and grids, in 2024, Kon Tum Power Company (formerly) will also install 21 km of lightning protection wires on the 22 kV line to improve safety and ensure continuous operation in the harsh conditions of the border area.
After the merger and consolidation, Quang Ngai Power Company continues to direct Ngoc Hoi Power Management Team to maintain the inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting of the power grid supplying to Laos. This activity not only contributes to improving the quality of power supply for people in the border area of Attapeu province, but also affirms the role of the electricity sector in strengthening the friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
