VnExpressVnExpress02/11/2023

Hanoi University of Science and Technology plans to welcome 5,600 candidates to take the first round of the Thinking Assessment (TSA) exam in December, with registration opening from November 6.

Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, announced the above information on November 2. Registration for the exam is done entirely online, similar to last year at https://tsa.hust.edu.vn/. Registration period is from November 6 to November 12.

Mr. Hai reminded candidates to register with their citizen identification cards to avoid trouble because the school uses technology to scan ID cards and take photos to identify candidates before entering the exam room, to avoid cases of proxy exams.

"Last year, some students were subjective and used their parents' ID numbers to register, so it took time for the school to check before entering the exam room," said Mr. Hai.

As planned, the first round of thinking assessment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology will be held on December 2-3. In addition, 5 other rounds of exams will take place in 2024, lasting from January to June.

The schedule of 6 thinking assessment exams of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is as follows:

Batch Exam date
1 December 2 - 3, 2023
2 January 20 - 21, 2024
3 March 9 - 10, 2024
4 April 27 - 28, 2024
5 June 8 - 9, 2024
6 June 15 - 16, 2024

This year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will organize the thinking assessment exam in Hanoi, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Da Nang. Candidates can take the exam an unlimited number of times. However, Mr. Hai said that in the following exams, the system will prioritize candidates taking the exam for the first time because the exam is conducted on computers, and the school needs to ensure the appropriate number of candidates.

In 2023, Hanoi University of Science and Technology had nearly 11,000 candidates taking the thinking assessment test. The average score of candidates was 51.52/100 points. The percentage of candidates scoring over 70 points was nearly 6.2%. If only counting those scoring over 80 points, this percentage is approximately 0.73%. Of these, 7 students scored over 90 points, 73 students scored from 80 to 90 points.

In addition to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, 31 other universities and academies use the results of the thinking assessment test for admission (See list).

The content and format of the 2024 thinking assessment test will remain the same as this year, with three parts: Mathematical Thinking (60 minutes), Reading Comprehension (30 minutes), and Scientific Thinking/Problem Solving (60 minutes) with three levels of thinking assessment (reactive thinking, deductive thinking, and higher-order thinking). The questions are in the form of multiple choice questions, including: choosing the correct answer, true/false, drag and drop, and short answers.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology will issue a certificate valid for two years for candidates to use to apply to schools that accept this exam.
