Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) has just been appointed by the United Nations (UN) as Vice Chair of Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) within the framework of the UN's academic impact program for the 2025-2027 term.
UEH appointed by the United Nations as Vice President for Sustainable Cities and Communities
In its new role, UEH will lead networking and collaboration efforts to promote sustainable cities and communities on a global scale. This is an important strategic milestone in the university’s ongoing journey of internationalization and sustainable development.
The SDG Hub under the UN Academic Impact Programme is a global initiative initiated by the organisation to connect higher education institutions to support and promote 17 sustainable development goals through three areas: (1) education, (2) research and (3) outreach and collaboration.
Each SDG Hub will focus on one of the sustainable development goals with the following structure: Chair or co-chair representative and 3 vice chairs in charge of the 3 above areas.
The institutions selected as SDG Hubs are global higher education institutions that have demonstrated outstanding performance in promoting the SDGs with an academic approach that creates positive social, economic and environmental impact. The UN Academic Impact Programme also highlights the interconnectedness of all universities responsible for the 17 SDGs, thereby forming a global academic network for action on sustainable development.
In 2021, UEH will carry out a restructuring, aiming to become a multidisciplinary and sustainable university by 2030. The school will implement 5 pillars of training, research, operation, administration and community connection in line with the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.
