A source from PTI, Pakistan's largest opposition party, said Mr. Qureshi was arrested at his residence in the capital Islamabad shortly after holding a press conference, accused of criticizing the current government for delaying the election.
Former Prime Minister Khan, the former captain of Pakistan's world-winning cricket team, was detained earlier this month after being convicted of corruption among more than 200 cases he has faced since being ousted in a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
After many unsuccessful protests against the government of current Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif, Imran Khan was sentenced to 3 years in prison by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, making him ineligible to participate in the upcoming election.
This makes the dream of a political comeback of Mr. Imran Khan and the PTI party, including Vice President Qureshi, a rumored person who can replace Mr. Khan in the upcoming race, become distant.
