Le Thi Tham - a girl born without arms, was recruited by Thanh Hoa as an education officer on August 1.
On the afternoon of July 28, nearly two months after the direction of the Provincial Party Secretary, the Thanh Hoa provincial authorities completed the special recruitment procedures for Le Thi Tham, 25 years old, into the civil service. Tham was accepted as a grade 3 primary school teacher, teaching English, with a probationary period of 12 months.
Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Do Minh Tuan visited Dong Thinh Primary and Secondary School in Dong Son District to present the decision to Tham. The school currently has 700 students and 35 teachers.
Mr. Do Minh Tuan said he admired Tham's efforts in overcoming countless difficulties and hardships to become a teacher. Tham's example "has created a ripple effect in the community about her extraordinary efforts that not everyone can do".
Mr. Tuan assessed this as a special event and asked the leaders of Dong Thinh Primary and Secondary School to create all conditions to help Tham complete her tasks.
Expressing her gratitude to the provincial leaders, Tham said she would strive to overcome difficulties and complete all assigned tasks well when accepted to a public school near her home.

Le Thi Tham was born weighing just over a kilo and without two arms. When she went to kindergarten at the age of 4, Tham saw that her friends were given writing practice by the teacher, except for her, so she asked her teacher to give her some too. Given a piece of paper and a pencil, Tham used her left toe to hold the pencil and practice writing like her friends. Because her right leg was shorter than her left, practicing writing was more difficult for Tham. Her toes were often scratched and blistered, causing her pain and making it impossible to sleep at night.
Tham said that the hardships made her more determined. Whether in class or at home, Tham diligently practiced writing. At the age of 5, Tham could not only write fluently but also read numbers and letters. At the age of 6, Tham entered first grade like her peers.
In 2016, Tham was specially admitted to the English Pedagogy Department of Hong Duc University as she wished. After graduating in 2020, Tham returned to her hometown to open a free English class, providing English support for children near her home. Tham's biggest dream is to stand on the podium, impart knowledge to students and contribute in a suitable educational environment.
Tham was one of 133 typical collectives and individuals awarded by Thanh Hoa province on June 9, at the ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's call for patriotic emulation. On this occasion, Tham was invited to the stage to recount her journey.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Do Trong Hung was moved by Tham's speech and at the ceremony, he directed the provincial Department of Home Affairs and related units to recruit Tham to work in the education sector from the next school year.
According to the regulations of the Ministry of the Interior, the recruitment of civil servants must be through examination. Special recruitment is decided by the head of the competent authority based on the needs and abilities of the candidate.
