President Putin's visit facilitates expansion of BRICS cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Vietnam on June 19-20 shows that Russia is very interested in strengthening the relationship between the two countries, Dr. Ivan Nikolaievich Timofeev - General Director of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) commented in an interview with VNA. Regarding the relationship between the Russian Federation and Vietnam, Dr. Timofeev emphasized that the two countries have established a traditional friendship. As one of the important partners of the Russian Federation in the international arena, Vietnam has a fast-growing economy and a large market. Vietnam has signed a Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which has brought benefits to the economies of both sides. The state visit of the Russian President to Vietnam is a signal that Russia's top leaders are very interested in this relationship. Dr. Timofeev said that promoting economic and trade cooperation will be one of the top priorities of the two countries. He also predicted that the Russian leader's visit would create momentum for the digitalization sector. Russia has built up a good foundation in the digital technology sector and is ready to share its achievements. In addition, oil and gas remains one of the leading areas of economic cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation. In 2024, the Russian Federation will assume the rotating chairmanship of the BRICS group (including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
