The significance of Chinese President Xi Jinping's fourth visit to Vietnam

(Dan Tri) - Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son said that the visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping this time has strategic significance and will have a long-term impact on the development of relations between the two countries.

At the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping will pay a State visit to Vietnam from April 14 to 15.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son assessed that this visit is an important foreign political event of the two Parties and two countries.

"The visit has strategic significance and long-term impact on the development of Vietnam-China relations in the context that both countries are entering a new era, a new era of development," Mr. Son emphasized.

Vietnam and China are two close neighboring countries, mountains next to mountains, rivers next to rivers, and the people of the two countries have a long-standing traditional friendship.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said this was Xi Jinping's fourth visit to Vietnam as the highest leader of the Chinese Party and State; and the second visit during the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

During the visit, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping is expected to have high-level talks with General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong.

"With the high regard, close coordination and careful preparation of both sides, the fourth State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping will be a great success in all aspects, becoming a new milestone in the friendly neighborly relationship, the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and the Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of strategic significance," Mr. Son expected.

It is expected that General Secretary and President Xi Jinping will also have meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to discuss major measures, directions, and orientations to promote bilateral relations in various fields.

In addition, Mr. Xi Jinping will also participate in a number of other important foreign affairs activities.

The leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State are looking forward to and expect the visit to achieve good results in all aspects, according to Mr. Bui Thanh Son.

This time, Vietnam and China will identify major directions and focuses for cooperation; raise the level of substantive cooperation towards increasingly high quality, efficiency and sustainability.

In addition, the two sides will promote the creation of "bright spots" in high-level cooperation, especially in areas where Vietnam has demand and China has strengths such as standard gauge railways, agricultural trade, science and technology, education and training, digital economy, green economy, etc.

It is expected that ministries, agencies and localities of the two countries will sign about 40 cooperation documents in a wide range of fields during Mr. Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam, creating an important foundation for more effective cooperation in the coming time.

According to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, since the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership framework in 2008, especially after historic visits, the Vietnam-China bilateral relationship has developed strongly, comprehensively and remarkably.

Key leaders of the two Parties and two countries affirmed that developing bilateral relations is a top priority and a strategic choice in the foreign policy and neighborly diplomacy of Vietnam and China.

In 2024, Vietnam-China economic and trade cooperation will continue to reach a new peak, exceeding 200 billion USD according to Vietnamese statistics and 260 billion USD according to Chinese data.

Vietnam maintains its position as the largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's fourth largest trading partner by country criteria (after the US, Japan, and South Korea).

In the first 3 months of 2025, Vietnam - China bilateral trade turnover reached 51.25 billion USD (up 17.46% over the same period).

In 2024, China ranked first in the number of newly licensed projects with 955 projects, ranking 3rd out of 110 investment partners in Vietnam in terms of capital with 4.73 billion USD (an increase of more than 3.05%).
