April 30 Victory – The Great Feat of the 20th Century

April 30, 1975 has become a brilliant milestone in the history of the Vietnamese people - the day of total victory, ending the resistance war against the US to save the country, completely liberating the South, and unifying the country. That victory was not only a major political and military event, but also a shining symbol of the will for independence, the desire for peace and the strength of great solidarity of the entire Vietnamese people.

Through the years of arduous resistance, under the talented leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the people of the North and South overcame countless challenges and defeated one of the most powerful countries in the world. The historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign ended in the overwhelming joy of millions of Vietnamese hearts, closing a painful period and opening a new era - the era of independence, freedom and national unification.

The victory of April 30 is the crystallization of the passionate patriotism, the courage and loyalty of generations of fathers and brothers. It is the victory of Vietnamese bravery, of intelligence and humanity, of the willingness to sacrifice for national independence, for the future of future generations. The images of liberation troops entering the Independence Palace, the red flag with yellow star flying between Saigon - Gia Dinh are indelible marks in the national memory.

Years will pass, but the April 30 Victory will forever go down in national history as the most brilliant milestone, a shining symbol of the complete victory of revolutionary heroism and human intelligence, and go down in world history as a political-military event of epochal significance.

For every Vietnamese, April 30, 1975 is a day of great historical significance. It was the day when the war gradually faded into the past, the country was cleared of invaders, and peace returned to the whole of Vietnam. It was the day of reunion: the country was reunited, the North and the South were united; the country joined hands to build the country towards socialism, towards the goal of “rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, and civilization”.

April 30, 50 years ago, put Vietnam at the forefront of anti-imperialist nations, realizing the revolutionary truth “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” of the Ho Chi Minh era. As the Document of the 9th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam - Vietnam's platform in the early years of the 21st century stated: "With the victories achieved in the 20th century, our country has transformed from a semi-feudal colony into an independent, free nation, developing along the path of socialism, having extensive international relations, and an increasingly important voice and position in the region and in the world. Our people have transformed from slaves to masters of the country and society."

On April 30, the Victory Monument was erected, the highest historical milestone was erected on the foundation of a century of revolution and change in the nation's life. That is the most fundamental meaning of the April 30 event and April 30, 1975 has a century-long stature from that fundamental meaning of modern Vietnamese history.

More than half a century has passed, today's Vietnam has changed every day, growing strongly on the path of development and integration. But every time April 30th comes back, the hearts of Vietnamese people are still filled with emotion. That victory does not only belong to the past, but is also a great source of motivation for today's and future generations to move forward, continuing the heroic tradition of their ancestors, building a strong, rich and civilized Vietnam.

In the journey of building the future, cherishing, preserving and promoting the value of the April 30 Victory is the responsibility and pride of every Vietnamese. From there, we will love our Fatherland even more, be grateful for the great sacrifices and foster the spirit of solidarity and self-reliance - a solid foundation for all successes.

The most consistent lesson of the April 30 victory is to constantly maintain and strengthen the leadership of the Party and promote the strength of the great unity of the entire people. This is a matter of survival in the previous war of national salvation and also a matter that determines the success of the cause of innovation, industrialization and modernization of our country today.

Grasping the revolutionary and scientific nature of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought, our Party has set out a correct, creative, independent and autonomous line to successfully resolve many issues of strategy and tactics, revolutionary methods and the art of war in a special historical period of our country. In the confrontation with the richest and most powerful imperialist in the capitalist system, our Party has objectively demonstrated the strength of the working class nature, the people's and national character of the Party; the revolutionary spirit and scientific nature of the resistance line and policy; the intelligence, leadership capacity and art of directing and organizing the national resistance; and the policy of national solidarity and international solidarity of our Party.

The great victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country further increased the pride in our nation - a heroic, intelligent and creative nation; pride in our Party - the Communist Party of Vietnam founded, led and trained by President Ho Chi Minh. Wholeheartedly fighting and sacrificing for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people. The victory of the resistance war against the US to save the country was the victory of the national solidarity bloc whose core was the unity within the Party, the solidarity between the Party and the people. The foundation of that solidarity was the alliance of workers, farmers and intellectuals under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The Party's leadership experience in the resistance war against the US to save the country has been applied and developed in the current cause of national renewal, building socialism and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

Over the past 50 years, especially after nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation policy initiated and led by our Party, our country has achieved remarkable achievements in almost all fields, creating new positions and strengths, opening up many potentials and opportunities for national development. Our country is becoming more and more dignified and beautiful. Our people have an increasingly prosperous and happy life. Our country's prestige and position are increasingly enhanced in the international arena.

50 years have passed, in each of us, the Great Victory of Spring 1975 remains a source of pride, a brilliant symbol of the power of revolutionary heroism and of the creative intelligence of Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh era; a victory of the strategic, aggressive, proactive, resourceful and creative ideology of our army and people in the history of the war for national liberation and defense of the Fatherland.
