Sharing a passion for art and love of beauty, before getting married, Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Giang (born in 1997) and Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh (born in 1994) rented a piece of land of nearly 800 square meters in Giang Ta Chai village, Ta Van commune, Sapa town (Lao Cai), and built a simple, rustic home close to nature with their own hands.

Ms. Giang shared that she and her husband found out about this land by chance after only a few days of searching. The rental price of the land changes over time, fluctuating around 10 million VND/month.

The land already had an abandoned house, surrounded by green rice fields of ethnic minorities. The space here was peaceful, poetic, and changed colors with each season, making Giang and her husband "moved" at first sight.

When starting the renovation, the couple did almost everything themselves, from repairing the house to planting and decorating. Only for a few special jobs that required machinery did they hire help.

The couple also added stairs, wooden walkways, built a gazebo, and arranged tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the view. Although everything is simply decorated, every corner of the house becomes an ideal check-in spot.

Being both children of Lao Cai and lovers of art, Giang and her husband renovated the house with a simple orientation but still imbued with the beauty of their homeland. The total investment cost is about 500-600 million VND.

“We could say we started from zero, because at first the house was shabby and had nothing. After a few months, we completed our dream house. Whatever was not beautiful, my husband and I fixed it over and over again until we were satisfied,” Giang confided.

In their free time, Giang and her husband go to the gym, climb mountains, and then wander down to villages to buy old objects, wooden items, and jute cloth from many families that are no longer in use, bring them back to paint and turn them into home decorations.

Every corner of Giang's home is filled with uniquely colored handmade decorations.

Up to now, Giang and her husband have been married for almost a year, and their small house in the middle of the rice fields has existed for nearly 2 years. To add more laughter to their home, Giang and her husband opened a “rice field view” cafe to welcome tourists.

Not only that, in their own house, the couple arranged a room with a capacity of 4 people for tourists who need to stay. Here, visitors are awakened by the cool early morning breeze and bright sunlight.

“Most of the guests are foreigners who know the beautiful scenery here and want to stay here to immerse themselves in nature. My husband is a tour guide, so he can communicate well with foreign tourists,” said Ms. Giang.

As an artist, Ms. Giang not only creates paintings but also guides tourists in painting. Ms. Giang’s paintings mainly bear cultural imprints, expressing the simplicity of the people of the highlands.

According to her, painting is not only her passion but also her way of spreading the cultural beauty of her homeland and country. “Many foreign guests who come to stay and drink coffee really like my paintings and buy them to bring back home. Through the paintings, the image of the country and people of Vietnam will be spread wider and further,” Ms. Giang confided.

Ms. Giang added that the greatest value that she and her husband have gained from building this simple living space is the peace, freedom, and lack of pressure. Since having a “healing” living space, the couple’s spirit and health have been better than before, and from there her artistic inspiration has also been more abundant and vivid.
