Minister of Transport inspects My Thuan - Can Tho expressway
At the actual inspection of the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway, Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board, said that the project's construction volume has reached over 80% of the approved design. The project is in the final stage, striving to complete by the end of December 2023. Currently, contractors are focusing on human resources, machinery, and equipment to construct asphalt pavement items, install traffic safety systems, construct residential access roads, complete bridges on the main route and overpasses, etc.
To ensure progress, contractors are urgently implementing the remaining items, but are currently short of more than 90,000 m3 . My Thuan Project Management Board requested Vinh Long and An Giang provinces to consider supporting sand material sources for project construction from the Vung Liem quarry (Vinh Long) about 80,000 m3 and from the Vam Nao river dredging project (An Giang) about 44,000 m3 in November 2023.
Minister Nguyen Van Thang noted that the project completion time is running out while the workload is still large. My Thuan Project Management Board needs to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles, creating favorable conditions for contractors. Contractors need to focus on human resources, financial resources, materials, equipment, and organize 3-4 shifts, and work at night to speed up the construction progress.
Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway needs 17 million cubic meters of sand
Regarding the Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau section projects of the North - South Eastern Expressway Project in the 2021-2025 period, contractors have organized 140 construction teams, mobilized 440 machines and equipment of all kinds, along with 1,072 engineers and workers.
Minister Nguyen Van Thang speaks at the conference
After more than 11 months of construction, the construction output only reached 13% of the contract value due to the lack of sand materials for roadbed filling. Therefore, the contractor can only carry out the construction of bridge items on the route and excavate unsuitable soil, build embankments and construct service roads, temporary bridges, etc.
My Thuan Project Management Board said that, regarding the main material needs for the entire project, with 6 stone quarries and 4 soil quarries basically meeting the needs. Particularly for sand materials for foundation, about 18.46 million m3 is needed. The provinces have introduced to the project 14 new mines and increased the capacity of mines currently being exploited with reserves of about 16.3 million m3 . Of which, 3.6 million m3 have been completed, and 1.5 million m3 have been exploited and brought to the construction site.
My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway is being urgently constructed to be completed before December 31, 2023.
Assessing the need to transport sand to the construction site in the coming time, My Thuan Project Management Board said that currently the section with the longest loading time is 15.5 months. Thus, to complete the project in 2026, the loading must be completed before October 30, 2024. The total volume of sand for the Can Tho - Ca Mau project is 18.5 million m3 , but up to now, 1.5 million m3 has been installed. The remaining volume of sand to be mobilized is 17 million m3 .
Minister of Transport and delegation visited, encouraged and presented gifts to workers, engineers and supervisors working on the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway.
The head of the transport sector suggested that the provinces must commit to providing sufficient sand resources for the expressway not only this year but also in 2024. It is necessary to proactively arrange new sand mines for exploitation and at the same time increase the exploitation capacity of existing sand mines. Focus all resources to have sand sources to supply the expressway routes, ensure the construction progress of works, expressway restoration, and put them into operation soon to serve the people. At the same time, consulting and supervising units must closely monitor the site to ensure the progress and quality of construction works. For completed volumes, payment and settlement must be carried out in accordance with regulations...
