With nearly 60 years of revolutionary activities, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has been closely associated with the Party's political theory work and has held many different positions, from specialist, editor to Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine; Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Chairman of the National Assembly; President; and finally General Secretary. As the representative of the Politburo directly in charge of the Party's theoretical work, he has clearly demonstrated his role as the core leader, together with the Central Executive Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat to build solidarity, unity of will and action within the Party, thereby creating high unity in the political system with the spirit of "First support, then support", "One call, all respond", "Unanimity above and below", "Consistency across and above", overcoming all difficulties and challenges, achieving many new victories. Despite his busy work, the General Secretary still devotes special time to scientific research and the Party's political theory work. With his steadfast political stance, sharp theoretical thinking and revolutionary offensive spirit, many scientific works of high theoretical, practical and action value have had a great impact on political and ideological awareness in the Party and society, helping cadres, party members and people to correctly perceive the theory and practice of socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam in both objective and subjective aspects, especially in Party building and implementing the organization of Party building tasks in terms of politics, ideology, ethics, organization and cadres.

The thoughts, viewpoints, guiding principles and principles of action in the ideological work of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong are the red thread, requiring each cadre and party member, especially the head of the Party Committee, to continue to thoroughly grasp, deeply perceive and effectively organize implementation, in order to promote the combined strength of the branches doing ideological work, on the basis of: Being steadfast and creatively applying and developing Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought; being steadfast in the goals of national independence and socialism; being steadfast in the Party's innovation policy; firmly uphold the principles of Party building, enhance combativeness, proactiveness, persuasion, and efficiency, contribute to creating unity within the Party, consensus in society, successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, create a solid foundation for the successful organization of Party congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Congress of Delegates, gradually realizing the goal: "By 2030, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party: To be a developing country with modern industry and high average income. By 2045, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam: To become a developed country with high income".

Throughout his revolutionary career, regardless of his position or field of work, from when he was a young cadre to when he held the position of Party and State leader, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has always been concerned with the work of Party building and rectification, and the fight against corruption and negativity. In particular, with the responsibility of Head of the Central Steering Committee on corruption and negativity prevention and control, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has led and directed closely and resolutely, with many extremely important viewpoints and policies, with profound theoretical and practical values, demonstrating the vision, mettle, intelligence, humanity, benevolence, and persuasiveness of the leader of our Party. With rich practical experience and sharp theoretical thinking, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has pointed out that corruption is a "born defect of power", which occurs within us, carried out by people with positions and powers. Preventing and combating corruption and negativity is a struggle within each individual, within their own agency, organization, unit, and locality, related to material interests, money, position, honor, and reputation of organizations and individuals; affecting people with positions and power.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that cadre work must: "Dare to think, dare to speak, dare to do, dare to take responsibility, dare to innovate, be creative, dare to face difficulties and challenges and dare to act for the common good". The General Secretary affirmed that Party building and rectification is the work of building organizations and building people; ensuring the principle of the Party's unified leadership of cadre work and management of cadres; thoroughly understanding the role of cadre work as "the key of the key", having decisive significance for all successes of our country's revolution, both in the short and long term, building cadres at all levels with steadfast political will, pure revolutionary ethics, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people, with the capacity and qualifications to meet the requirements of the task. “No matter what position they hold, officials must always be fully aware of their responsibilities, do their “right role, know their lesson”, be truly qualified, complete assigned tasks well; be closely attached to the people, and be trusted and respected by the people”.

The work of protecting the Party's ideological foundation today needs to combine smoothly between "protection" and "struggle", between "construction" and "resistance". Closely combine "construction" and "resistance", in which "construction" is a fundamental, strategic and long-term task; "resistance" is an important, regular and urgent task. With the task of "protection" combined with "resistance", it is necessary to rely on President Ho Chi Minh's viewpoint on "making more friends, reducing enemies", taking "mindfulness and attack" as the foundation, taking education, persuasion and propaganda as the priority, taking vivid practice to prove the correct line, moving towards transforming "objects" into "partners", thereby maintaining the foreign policy. Along with that, it is necessary to proactively prevent, resolutely and persistently fight uncompromisingly against "resistance" contents and subjects under necessary conditions. With the foundation of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, foreign affairs continue to contribute to the development and implementation of the Party's ideological foundation. Through creative application and constant innovation in thinking, the theoretical work of the Communist Party of Vietnam always promotes its value in the new era, responding promptly to rapid changes in the world.
