The event was organized by Hoi An City People's Committee in collaboration with Arabesque Vietnam. The performance is a combination of folk music and contemporary dance, directed by director and art director Nguyen Tan Loc and music director Duc Tri.
Straw tells the story of the simple and genuine feelings of a Vietnamese farmer family. The simple, familiar haystack is an important “witness” next to the house: From the time the grandparents were young, met, got married and had children, until the children were born and spent their childhood playing and being mischievous under the haystack.
As time went on, the children grew up, and the grandparents sat under the haystack to plan their marriages. And so, as each generation passed away, the haystack remained as a witness to the family’s bond. The haystack was sometimes empty, sometimes full, just as the feelings were sometimes deep, sometimes full, sometimes empty…

Performing "Straw" against the backdrop of ripe rice fields in harvest season, Arabesque introduced for the first time the combination of contemporary dance and nature (ambiance dance) to the ancient city of Hoi An (Ambiance Dance is a performance form that combines dance language with outdoor space, sound, context... very popular in the world, especially in cultural and tourist cities).
The show will have 4 performances, taking place continuously for 4 days from August 22 to 25, at sunset, scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day. According to the organizers, the event is an effort to build and develop Hoi An city in the direction of an ecological - cultural - tourist city.
In which, it focuses on promoting and creating existing potentials and advantages, especially in the field of culture and arts; promoting innovation and creativity, choosing sustainable development, valuing ecological and humanistic values, creating opportunities and nurturing new creative values on the basis of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage values of Hoi An, in order to affirm and promote the title of Hoi An - UNESCO's creative city.
