Dinh Viet Giang was not too surprised to become the valedictorian of the Auditing major and the second-place winner of the National Economics University this year (the valedictorian of the school achieved 4.0/4.0).

"After each semester, the school sends a list of scholarships to encourage students to study, so I can estimate my score compared to other students from the second or third year of university," the male student said. He is proud that his tireless efforts and hard work during the four years of university have been duly rewarded.

Passionate about numbers since childhood

"Maybe I inherited my mother's genes - she was a good accountant," said Viet Giang, adding that her mother was also the valedictorian of the Central Banking High School 4 (now the Banking Academy).

His childhood was often associated with pages of paper with long numbers that his mother was passionate about calculating. Gradually, he realized that he loved numbers, especially Math. In 2012, he was the only primary school student to be admitted to the Math class at Tran Dang Ninh Secondary School - one of the most prestigious secondary schools in Nam Dinh.

When he reached high school, he passed the entrance exam to the specialized Math class at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted. Throughout his school years, Giang was sent to compete in provincial-level Math competitions and won prizes.

In the 2019 high school graduation exam, Viet Giang got 26.15 points in block A1 (Math, Physics, English), and was admitted to the Auditing major at the National Economics University.

Not stopping there, after being admitted to the school, the male student from Nam Dinh decided to take the exam to upgrade to the high-quality program to satisfy his passion for studying in English and improve his foreign language skills. To take the exam to upgrade to the high-quality program is not simple, Viet Giang had to go through 3 exams including: Essay writing, English test and direct interview with teachers.

Be strict with yourself in everything

During his 4 years at university, the second-place winner achieved A+ in 51 subjects, with only one subject, General Law, achieving a B+. "The reason was partly subjective, partly due to not finding the most effective study and review method," the male student had some regrets in the first semester of his first year at university.

After the results of that subject, Giang tried hard to find many suitable learning methods. He often planned his study right from the beginning of each new semester, read and researched documents before coming to class, focused 100% on lectures, took systematic notes, and discussed with lecturers in class.

Whenever he listens to lectures or reads documents, he often uses the method of dividing his notebook in half. On the left side of the page, Giang writes down the main ideas of the lecture, and on the right side, he writes down his questions, concerns, and personal opinions. With this method, he listens to lectures and reads documents more effectively, has opinions to express, and the knowledge he has learned is also deepened.

Giang is also always proactive in studying and reviewing at the same time, not waiting until the last minute to start. This makes reviewing for the final exam easier, as she only needs to read the slides, textbooks, and notebooks to recall the knowledge she has learned.

Right from the first year, he also built his own group of friends with the same goal. Whenever there was an assignment or test, all 5 people would share the review content, discuss together and support each other in teaching knowledge. With tireless efforts, his study group reaped worthy results when all 5/5 people graduated with excellent grades.

The new runner-up of the National Economics University also revealed that he always prioritizes his work using the Eisenhower matrix and focuses on working with the Pomodoro method. His study and work efficiency has increased significantly.

The Eisenhower Matrix is a model consisting of 4 criteria: Urgent, Not urgent, Important, Not important. He always divides and evaluates the work according to the above 4 criteria, determines its nature to perform it most effectively. In addition, the Pomodoro method is a working method in a cycle of working for 25 minutes, resting for 5 minutes and repeating working for 25 minutes, resting for 5 minutes, which can be flexible to work for 50 minutes, resting for 10 minutes.

Giang always sets a deadline for everything. “If the deadline is too long, we will usually only focus all our efforts on the task when it is close to the deadline. Therefore, I will proactively choose a short deadline to increase pressure, have the most motivation to focus, and complete the task as soon as possible,” the male student shared.

Being serious with himself for 4 years, Viet Giang has a remarkable record of achievements such as: winning 12 academic scholarships, top 10 outstanding students of National Economics University 2022; Second prize for scientific research students at school level in 2022, 1st runner-up in the "Student Ideal" contest 2022.

In particular, thanks to his achievement in the top 10 of the "Path to becoming a strategic leader 2022" competition, he received an internship offer from the auditing company Ernst & Young in Vietnam (one of the four largest auditing companies in the world) right from his third year of university. More surprisingly, after the internship, he received an offer to become an official employee at the company.

"Being exposed to the environment of one of the four major auditing firms is a great opportunity, the dream of most students majoring in Auditing. Therefore, I want to take advantage of this opportunity for myself," said Viet Giang.

Giang wants to use the saying that he always cherishes to tell students: "Don't wait for opportunities, create it!" Giang uses this saying to set goals for himself and be more proactive in conquering them.

In the future, the male student aims to win a scholarship to study Development Economics in the Netherlands.

Dr. Ho To Loan, a lecturer at the National Economics University, assessed that as the deputy class monitor of the CLC61B Auditing class, Giang is always exemplary in his studies. He has achieved many achievements in academic competitions at school.

"Giang is a role model for students of the National Economics University in general and students of the high-quality program in particular. He is a student who both studies well and actively participates in movement activities," Ms. Loan was impressed.
