The lake in the central park of Hoang Thai commune (Hoang Hoa) is protected, creating a green - clean - beautiful landscape.
Perhaps, there are few places that leave such an impression on many people as when coming to Hoang Quy commune. It has become a habit, around 5 pm, when the weather has begun to change to the hot and humid summer, adults and children gather at the village cultural houses to play and enjoy the cool air. The strange thing is that in a locality adjacent to National Highway 1A, with rapid urbanization, dense population, and cramped land, people still preserve the village ponds and join hands to renovate them to be cleaner and more beautiful.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Quy Commune, Le Van Hai, said: In the past, there were many ponds in Hoang Quy Commune, but over time, the development of social life has gradually reduced the number of village ponds. The whole commune now has only 8 village ponds scattered in the villages of Dong Khe, Ich Ha, Tay Phuc, Trung Tien, Dong Nam... The ponds have all been renovated with socialized funding. The renovation of the ponds depends on the actual conditions of each village, but basically, embankments and sturdy railings are built to protect them. The ponds are assigned to the villages for direct management. Many families in the commune have supported, contributed labor and money to buy stone benches, and planted trees around to create a landscape. Since then, the area around the village pond has become an ideal place for people to stop, meet, chat, and rest on hot summer days.
Hoang Thang Commune is a densely populated area with famous villages such as Hong Nhue and Hoang Tri. In the past, in Hong Nhue village, village ponds in this crop growing area became important in both the rainy and sunny seasons. However, not outside the vortex of change, the land was narrow and the population was dense, people filled the ponds to build houses and gardens. About 20 years ago, dozens of large and small ponds in the village became crowded residential areas. There are things that are difficult to get back once lost, and the same goes for village ponds!
Fortunately, there are still some ponds in the village that have been preserved to this day. People here have paid more attention to preserving this common space. Particularly in Hong Nhue 2 village, since 2023, after being renovated with socialized funding, 2 village ponds with a total area of about 800m2 have become highlights in the village's mini campuses.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Khuyen, Secretary of the Party Cell of Hong Nhue 2 Village, shared: For generations, village ponds have become a familiar image in the lives of many generations of farmers, the soul of each village. Village ponds regulate the air, become "lungs" to cool down hot summer days, are a place to prevent drought for farmers in the hot season, and drain water in the rainy season. Therefore, when village ponds are renovated, they will promote their inherent function, at the same time contribute to enhancing the rural landscape, bringing a fresh living environment to rural people.
In Hoang Thai commune, many ponds and lakes are still preserved. The lake in the central park of the commune has long been compared by the people as the "lungs" that regulate and cool the heat for the crowded residential area and schools in the neighboring area. The lake is about 10,000m2 wide and has been renovated and paved with winding shapes. Above the lake, the commune has built a new monument to heroic martyrs with an impressive design. The surrounding landscape is neatly arranged with a playground, exercise area, walking paths, stone benches, trees, solar power system, asphalt roads... Many people who pass by here are amazed and praise because in a place with limited land and a large population like Hoang Thai commune, local officials and people still retain open spaces for the countryside.
The countryside has made efforts to adapt to the new development stage, but preserving natural ponds and lakes is a matter of great concern, because it is a sustainable environmental landscape, open living space and practical benefits for the people.
