High virtual rate due to abandoning early admission method

Virtual filtering shows that this year's university entrance exam is expected to have many unpredictable fluctuations when the number of candidates and wishes increases dramatically, and the "virtual" rate is high. These factors make the prediction of standard scores inaccurate and irregular like previous years.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , nearly 850,000 candidates have registered for admission, with a total of about 7.6 million applications, with each student registering for nearly 9 applications on average, much higher than the average of about 5 applications in the past 3 years.

Admissions experts say that the early cancellation of admissions leaves candidates without a starting point, leading to the mentality that the more they register, the more likely they are to be admitted. This is one of the main reasons why the number of applications has skyrocketed compared to previous years, with many candidates even registering for more than 100 applications. Preliminary statistics show that at least 10 candidates registered from 125 to 152 applications, spread across many majors, many schools, and through many admission methods.

The elimination of early admission is putting a psychological burden on candidates and their parents when they have to "spread" many wishes to increase their chances of admission. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the elimination of early admission helps increase fairness and reduce virtual admissions, but also forces candidates to register many wishes to protect their chances of admission. Therefore, on average this year, each candidate registered nearly 9 wishes, which is completely understandable. In reality, universities are currently facing a "virtual" situation at many levels, virtual within a method, virtual between methods within the same school, and virtual between schools in the group or nationwide.

"For schools with top admission scores, the difference is not too much because most candidates register for their first choice. However, for schools with average to good admission scores, after each virtual filtering, this number changes. This makes it very difficult for us to comment on the admission scores at the present time, we have to wait until the last minute to get the exact results" - a representative of a university in Ho Chi Minh City informed.

Anxiously waiting for the results

Top universities have seen a sharp increase in the number of candidates applying for admission. The National Economics University has seen a total increase of about 25% compared to 2024. Meanwhile, the University of Commerce has seen a 1.5-fold increase in the number of applications compared to the previous year. According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy Head of the Communications and Admissions Department, more than 30,000 candidates with foreign language certificates have applied to the school.

At the Banking Academy, the number of candidates increased by 126%, of which up to 1/3 of the candidates possess international certificates.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology and National Economics University said on August 19 that they will announce the scores on the evening of August 20.

Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions and Communications Center - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said the school will announce the admission scores at 6 p.m. on August 20 and start school on August 22.

"After 4 virtual filtering rounds, the benchmark situation can basically be predicted. Peak industries such as logistics, marketing, international business will have benchmark scores equal to or lower than 2024 by about 0.5 points; industries with benchmark scores of about 20 points such as electronics, automation, mechatronics, data science, information security... are likely to increase by 1-2 points this year" - MSc. Son informed.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that the school plans to announce the benchmark scores on the evening of August 20 or the morning of August 21.

According to Dr. Nhan, initial data shows that it is very likely that the benchmark score for considering high school graduation exam scores will decrease slightly, fluctuating between 22-25 points. Meanwhile, benchmark scores for other methods may increase, for example, the score for the competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University is around 750-900 points.

Ho Chi Minh City Banking University said it will announce the admission scores on the evening of August 20, and successful candidates will complete admission procedures on September 3 and 4. On September 5, the school will hold the opening ceremony of the new school year. However, at this point, the school cannot comment on whether the admission scores will increase or decrease because there are two more virtual filtering rounds.

Member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University such as University of Technology, University of Economics and Law, International University... are expected to announce admission scores on the evening of August 20 or the morning of August 21.

Some non-public universities such as Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Van Lang, Hoa Sen, Hung Vuong... "finalized" the time to announce the admission scores on the evening of August 20.
