Quynh Phu Commune evacuated 1,705 people to safe shelters before storm No. 5

Quynh Phu commune was formed by merging the entire area and population of the communes: An Hoa, Phu Nghia, Thuan Long, and Van Hai of Quynh Luu district (old).

Mr. Tran Viet Dung - Secretary of the Quynh Phu Commune Party Committee said: “From early morning on August 25, the commune's inspection team continued to go to the village, checking all households in the dangerous area to urgently evacuate to a safe place. The commune's guiding viewpoint is to act decisively and thoroughly, not leaving any households behind. In particular, there are over 900 ships and boats anchored, however, 100% of people are required not to stay on ships and boats to avoid human losses when the storm makes landfall".

The first priority for evacuation is households living near sea dikes, makeshift houses, ships and boats anchored near the mouth of the creek. As of late morning of August 25, all 1,705 people in danger had been evacuated to safe shelters. Most of them are elderly, children and women.

Union members, youth, militia and communal police were mobilized to help transport belongings, take people to shelters, and provide guidance on how to stabilize their accommodation.

Recorded on the morning of August 25, the atmosphere at shelters was quite stable, people followed the instructions of the authorities and functional forces well.

Ms. Ho Thi Dinh - a displaced resident shared: "My house is near the sea dike, the commune proactively encouraged my family to take shelter early. It is solid here, and there are staff to support us, so we feel much more secure."

Two kindergartens in Quynh Tho and Quynh Long communes (old) were requisitioned as storm shelters. These locations were fully equipped with lighting systems, clean water, instant noodles, drinking water, and medical supplies.

In addition, the commune has also safely anchored more than 901 ships and boats, ensuring that no one remains on board when the storm hits.

In order to proactively respond to storm No. 5, Quynh Phu commune has developed a contingency plan: establishing a logistics team, arranging food reserves, preparing rescue vehicles, and establishing a mobile shock team ready to respond in case of emergency. The commune also assigned cadres to go directly to villages and hamlets to fight storm No. 5 with the people.
