On August 18, the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group ( Viettel ) announced that it will officially start construction of the An Khanh Data Center and the Viettel Research and Development Center (R&D) on August 19. These two key projects have fundamental significance, affirming Viettel's pioneering role in implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation. Specifically, this is about developing a system of research and testing centers, key national laboratories, focusing on strategic technologies.

The Viettel R&D Center project has an investment of 10,000 billion VND on an area of 13 hectares in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park (Hanoi). The project consists of 6 smart buildings, expected to be completed in 2030. This will be a key R&D center, closing the entire process of "research - design - testing - production" of high-tech products Made in Vietnam. From mastering the technologies of manufacturing missiles, cruise engines, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), remote sensing satellites, radar systems... to create military equipment products suitable for the requirements of protecting the Fatherland to researching and applying technologies of big data (Big Data), artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing...
The Viettel R&D Center project applies international standards in design and operation, integrating the following elements: smart, green, sustainable to meet both high professional requirements and environmental friendliness. This is also a project built with a system to ensure absolute safety and security, using the most modern technology and protected through many layers. It is expected to attract 2,500 high-quality personnel, meeting the requirements of the tasks and policies of the Party, State, and Ministry of National Defense in the field of research and production of military equipment to help modernize the army, improve combat power and the ability to protect the country in the new situation.
An Khanh Data Center (Hanoi) is built on an area of 1.9 hectares, with a total investment of 17,500 billion VND, a designed capacity of 60MW, expected to become the largest data center in the North. Phase 1 is expected to operate from the second quarter of 2026 and by 2030 will be upgraded to become Viettel's second Hyperscale Data Center.

The project is designed according to Uptime Tier III standards, integrating AI developed by Viettel, a 5-layer security system and modern cooling technology, ensuring green and sustainable operations, towards the Government's Net Zero goal. This will be a key infrastructure, serving the digital transformation of the Government, the Ministry of National Defense, large enterprises and the deployment of artificial intelligence on a national scale.
Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group, said that Viettel is committed to completing the project on schedule, ensuring quality exceeding requirements and meeting international standards. These two projects will be guaranteed safe throughout the construction and operation process, not only as modern research infrastructure today but also as a sustainable foundation for future generations.
In 2025, Viettel has deployed the construction of a series of projects of strategic significance such as: Tan Phu Trung Data Center (HCMC), Viettel Da Nang Building... contributing to the completion of a modern technology infrastructure network, meeting the goals of national defense development and digital transformation.
