On August 21, aerospace company SpaceX announced that it had successfully launched the Falcon 9 rocket carrying the secret US military spacecraft X-37B into orbit.
According to SpaceX, the rocket was successfully launched at 11:50 p.m. local time on August 21 - 10:50 a.m. Vietnam time on August 22 at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. This is the eighth mission of the X-37B unmanned aircraft.
The US Space Force says the X-37B will conduct operational testing of next-generation technologies, such as laser communications and the highest-performance quantum inertial sensors ever tested in space.
According to the force, the eighth mission of the X-37B will contribute to improving the resilience, performance and security of US space-based communications systems.
It is unclear how long this mission will last. Previous missions have lasted from a few months to a few years. The last one, the X-37B, spent more than a year in orbit before returning to Earth in March.
The X-37B, built by Boeing, is about the size of a small bus and resembles a miniature space shuttle. The 9-meter-long craft has a wingspan of 4.5 meters and was first launched into orbit in 2010./.
