On the afternoon of June 28, Lang Son Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to receive the certificate of recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker - Chief Representative of the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Vietnam - said that Global Geoparks are a model of people living in harmony with nature, promoting sustainable development and improving community livelihoods.

According to Mr. Baker, Lang Son Geopark helps clarify the evolutionary process of tens of millions of years, contributing to shaping solutions to respond to climate change and natural disasters.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngo Le Van assessed this as the result of efforts to preserve and promote Vietnam's cultural and natural heritage, along with intangible values ​​such as Mother Goddess worship and Then singing of the Tay, Nung and Thai people.

He wants Lang Son to integrate sustainable development principles into park management, geological, cultural and ecological conservation, and create livelihoods for the community.

On behalf of the leaders of Lang Son province, Mr. Ho Tien Thieu - Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee - committed to synchronously implementing solutions to preserve and promote heritage values ​​according to the criteria of Lang Son Geopark, contributing to promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam to the world.

According to the 2025 - 2030 plan, Lang Son will complete the conservation planning, upgrade infrastructure connecting heritage sites, promote research and digitization of geological - cultural data, and develop tourism products imbued with local identity.

Lang Son Geopark was established in 2021, with an area of ​​over 4,800 km² and a population of nearly 627,000 people, accounting for about 58% of the area and 78% of the province's population.

This place has many places that not only have scientific significance but also attract adventurous tourists such as Nguom Mooc cave, Tham Lum sinkhole and Ung Roac sinkhole.

By April 2025, Lang Son Geopark will become the 4th global geopark in Vietnam after Dong Van Stone Plateau, Cao Bang Non Nuoc, and Dak Nong Geopark.
