Peaceful homes
These days, when hearing the news that storm No. 5 would affect Da Nang , Mr. Dinh Van Lanh's family (village 3, Tra Tan commune) was no longer afraid and prepared their belongings to take shelter like in previous years. Because the family had a new, solid house with support from the State and the police force.
Mr. Lanh shared that the old house was dilapidated and dilapidated, but he had saved up for a long time but still did not have enough money to rebuild it. The State supported 60 million VND from the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, Da Nang City Police supported 20 million VND, and his family contributed an additional 40 million VND to build a 43m2 house. The greatest happiness was that during the 50 days of construction, the police officers and local youth ate together, lived together, and helped the family transport materials and build the house.
“We only hired 3 construction workers, the majority of the workers were police officers and local youths. Thanks to that, the construction progress was very fast without incurring much expense. With a new house, the family did not forget the care and support of the government, the police force and the youth volunteers. This was the motivation for the family to work hard, take care of their children's education and escape poverty,” said Mr. Lanh.
According to the mass mobilization plan, Da Nang City Police took on the task of supporting the removal of 40 temporary and dilapidated houses. Since March, the City Police has directed the Youth Union to establish volunteer teams and deploy 40 campaigns in Phuoc Chanh, Phuoc Nang, Ben Hien, Song Vang, Tra Tan, and Tra Lien. Nearly 1,200 police youth union members participated, contributing nearly 3,000 working days, helping to speed up construction progress and reduce labor costs for households.
In particular, during the implementation process, the City Police also mobilized nearly 300 million VND in social resources to support additional funding; connected with businesses, material trading units, and transporters to buy raw materials at original prices and transport them for free. At the same time, mobilized commune police and local youth to support human resources. To date, 40/40 houses have been completed ahead of schedule and handed over to households in early August.
In addition, in recent years, the City Police have actively and effectively implemented the models "August 19 House" and "Peaceful Roof" to build and repair 31 houses for disadvantaged families, lonely elderly people, and households affected by natural disasters, with a total value of nearly 3 billion VND. In 2025, the City Police will coordinate with the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade ( VietinBank ) to support the construction of 50 new houses, with a support level of 100 million VND/house.
Spirit of Uncle Ho's soldiers
Accompanying the locality, the Military Command of Da Nang City mobilized officers and soldiers to contribute 3 days of salary, promote savings to create resources to support house building for people. At the same time, mobilized forces to participate in thousands of working days; mobilized businesses, organizations, and individuals to support additional facilities and necessities for disadvantaged households.
According to the mass mobilization plans, the City Military Command has been supporting the construction of 89 houses. Of which, the City Border Guard Command is the unit that actively implements, with many practical ways to support the elimination of temporary houses on the border line. To date, the City Border Guard has completed 23 houses and is deploying 13 houses.
In addition, the city's Border Guard also coordinated with localities to mobilize funds to repair 12 houses for poor households and policy families, with 413 working days of officers and soldiers; calling on businesses and philanthropists to support 66 houses, with a total cost of more than 3.9 billion VND.
In Hung Son commune, for nearly a year, Tr'Hy Border Guard Station has mobilized the construction of 8 houses for households in the border area, worth 520 million VND. Officers and soldiers of the unit also contributed hundreds of working days to build houses, level the ground, and transport materials, contributing to helping the locality complete the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the 2023 - 2025 period.
In the border commune of Dac Pring, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Danh, Political Commissar of Dac Pring Border Guard Station, said that since the beginning of 2024, the unit has organized 5 working sessions, mobilizing 75 officers and soldiers, contributing more than 200 working days to build houses for people. In addition, the unit also mobilized organizations and individuals to support the construction of 9 houses in 2024 and 6 houses in 2025.
“Not only stopping at providing shelters, joining hands to eliminate temporary houses helps people settle down and strengthen people's trust in the Party, government and armed forces. Thereby, strengthening the solidarity between the army and the people, building a strong national border defense posture,” Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Danh shared.
