On August 14, the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) announced the application of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the semi-finals and finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship. This is the first time VAR has been used in a Southeast Asian women's football tournament.
The implementation of VAR aims to improve fairness, transparency and support referees in making more accurate decisions in key situations. The introduction of VAR into the tournament is considered an important step forward, contributing to improving the professional quality and image of women's football in Southeast Asia.
The semi-finals and finals will both take place at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ). AFF-appointed coordinators were present there to survey and deploy equipment for the upcoming matches.
With a perfect record and no goals conceded, the Vietnamese women's team leads Group A and meets U23 Australia in the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Championship.
On August 16, the Vietnamese women's team will meet the Australian U23 women's team at 8:00 p.m., before that the Myanmar women's team will face the Thai U23 team at 4:00 p.m. If they reach the final, the Vietnamese women's team will compete at 7:30 p.m. on August 19.
