But the most notable feature of the Photos app in iOS 18 is the feature called Recovered. As the name suggests, this will help restore lost or corrupted photos and videos on iOS 18 devices due to database corruption or other problems such as photos taken with the camera app not being saved correctly in the photo library, etc.

In case you lose a photo or video on your device, an album called Recovered will appear in the Utilities section of the Photos app. This album contains photos and videos that are not in the Photos library but are still on your device. Once located, you can tap on it to permanently delete or restore any photos or videos stored on it.

To recover a lost photo or video, open the Photos app, tap Albums. Scroll down to the Utilities section and select the Recovered album. Select a photo or video from this album, or select multiple items at once before choosing to permanently delete or restore to the Photos app library.

Since Apple introduced the new Photos app at WWDC 2024, many have acknowledged that this is the biggest update in the history of this app. Notable features on the app include smart organization, many advanced features that are easily personalized, and a more intuitive interface.

The Recovered album feature is currently available in public betas of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, but only appears if there are any lost photos or videos on the device. Like all new features confirmed in each of Apple's operating systems, the new feature will officially launch in the fall of 2024.
