(BGDT) - Implementing the digital transformation program, Bac Giang Provincial General Hospital has been implementing many solutions towards building a smart hospital model, improving the quality and efficiency of the unit's operations.
Synchronous deployment throughout the hospital
The Provincial General Hospital is a Grade I hospital with 50 departments, rooms and centers, and nearly 1,000 staff. Every year, the unit performs nearly 300,000 medical examinations; treats 45,000 inpatients and 10,000 outpatients; and performs more than 10,000 surgeries.
In addition to the task of medical examination and treatment for people in the province and some neighboring provinces, the Hospital is also assigned by the Department of Health to be a center for training, professional development, and technology transfer for medical staff, doctors, nurses, and medical students in the whole province.
The Department of Biochemistry (Provincial General Hospital) has invested in many modern equipment to serve testing work. |
According to Dr. Hoang Truong Giang, Deputy Director of the Hospital, building a smart hospital is part of administrative procedure reform to improve the quality of care and protect people's health.
In recent years, the Hospital has effectively implemented the remote medical examination and treatment model, connecting with upper-level hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Thanks to this, many difficult cases have been consulted remotely by leading doctors, and patients have received the best medical services right in Bac Giang without having to transfer to another hospital.
At the same time, the Hospital actively provides professional support to medical facilities in the province to promptly handle complicated cases. Currently, the unit is effectively using digital medical platforms, such as: Hospital management; support for remote medical examination and treatment consultation; electronic prescription management; personal health record management; vaccination management, use of electronic medical records towards not using paper medical records, image sharing software (PACS)...
Recently, the Hospital has developed a Project for the Development and Application of Information Technology for the period 2023-2025, with a vision to 2030 towards comprehensive application of digital technology in healthcare. In 2023, the unit will focus on implementing electronic medical records. The Hospital has reviewed the entire existing information technology infrastructure system.
At this time, the unit is preparing bidding procedures to purchase 500 digital certificates, 100 wifi, 10 smart nursing cars, barcode readers, upgrade server rooms, automatic queuing systems; focus on digitizing medical records; renting management software, training, and coaching staff. The total estimated cost of purchasing equipment to implement electronic medical records is about 22 billion VND.
Faster, more accurate
Currently, at the departments collecting fees for medical examination and treatment services and other services, there are full means of serving cashless payments with the following methods: QR code, via website, via mobile money and card (POS); payment modules are ready to be integrated into the hospital and medical facility management software.
Currently, the medical examination and treatment process is shortened by 35-40 minutes compared to before. Each year, the hospital saves hundreds of millions of dong by reducing the use of paperwork, X-ray films, and limiting waste that pollutes the environment. |
In order to carry out the task of digital transformation, since the beginning of the year, departments and offices have promoted the application of information technology, reviewed and digitized thousands of report forms, documents, and medical records to reduce the overload of the record storage system; reduce the need to record and print prescription forms, and save on stationery costs. The hospital also deployed digital signatures to leaders to sign electronic medical records.
Records from specialized departments and offices show that payment of medical examination and treatment costs by health insurance is made according to electronic medical records, which significantly saves effort and time for staff and patients to travel to complete procedures. This solution also helps unit leaders to strengthen control and management of work through the operating system throughout the system, promptly diagnose and provide better and faster treatment regimens than before.
Dr. Ngo Thi Kim Hong, Head of the Examination Department, said that in the past, patients had to wait for results at the departments after taking X-rays and doing tests, but now thanks to the application of PACS image sharing software, professional staff will push the results to the computer software system and store them. Thanks to that, doctors do not have to look directly at the notice, do not need to go to the place but can still quickly know the results, give treatment instructions, and do not let patients waste time waiting and traveling.
In addition, doctors only need to order multiple tests once instead of many related documents. Compared to before, the new process shortens the implementation time by 35-40 minutes, saving hundreds of millions of VND in printing costs, stationery, and limiting waste that pollutes the environment.
To successfully deploy electronic medical records, towards the smart hospital model, the Hospital has determined that in addition to investing in facilities, human resources participating in digital transformation play a decisive role. Therefore, in the coming time, the Provincial General Hospital will allocate funds to invest in the field of information technology and digital applications to improve services to help patients receive care faster and more conveniently. Review and optimize work processes, cut unnecessary intermediaries. Ensure that 100% of staff are trained and instructed in applying information technology to meet the requirements of digital transformation tasks at the unit.
