Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha's family in sub-area 10 grows 7 hectares of oranges and green-skinned grapefruit, all using a drip irrigation system, which both saves costs and increases productivity. Ms. Ha said: My family invested in drip irrigation, fertilization and pesticides in the garden according to the "4 rights" principle, while pruning and shaping the canopy properly. Thanks to favorable weather, this year, the family expects to harvest more than 13 tons of fruit, with an estimated income of over 1 billion VND.

Meanwhile, at Sub-area 3/2 Cooperative, 60 hectares of custard apple and longan are grown, of which 82% of the area has an irrigation system. In the 2024 crop, the Cooperative will harvest nearly 900 tons of fruit, with a revenue of more than 22 billion VND. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Truong, Director of the Cooperative, said: With 30 members, after deducting expenses, the average income is over 300 million VND/year from fruit trees. Currently, the Cooperative focuses on taking care of custard apple and longan in the fruiting period, pruning branches, fertilizing, and at the same time building a consumption linkage plan. This year, with a good harvest, the Cooperative aims to increase revenue by 15-20% compared to last year.

Up to now, Mai Son commune has nearly 5,000 hectares of fruit trees; of which 694.5 hectares belong to two high-tech production areas of custard apple and mango. In recent years, Mai Son commune has re-planned the area, encouraged the application of high technology, and established specialized cooperatives (mango, longan, custard apple, dragon fruit, strawberry, etc.). The locality is gradually forming a sustainable production - processing - consumption chain, building a safe, organic agricultural model, associated with eco- tourism and experience. The whole commune has 48 cooperatives operating effectively in cultivation, supplying materials and consuming agricultural products. People maintain many high-yield, high-quality fruit tree varieties such as Thai custard apple, durian custard apple, grafted longan, Taiwanese mango, Australian mango, green-skinned grapefruit, Dien grapefruit, star apple and red-fleshed dragon fruit.

The application of scientific and technological advances has helped improve the productivity and quality of agricultural products, with the commune's fruit tree output reaching nearly 80,000 tons/year. Some cooperatives have an income of 7-20 billion VND/year, with the production value applying high technology reaching 250-300 million VND/ha/year, typically Xuan Que Strawberry Cooperative, Anh Trang Cooperative, Me Lech Cooperative, Thanh Son Cooperative and Sub-zone 3/2 Cooperative.

In recent years, the highlight of high-tech agriculture in Mai Son commune is the pollination technique for custard apples, helping to improve quality, achieving a yield of 13-17 tons/ha, earning 400-450 million VND/ha; Thai custard apples alone bring in 800 million VND to 1 billion VND/ha. In addition, farmers also apply the technique of growing early-ripening strawberries, spreading the crop, selling for 200-250 thousand VND/kg, many times more effective than traditional farming. The whole commune currently has more than 400 hectares of strawberries, about 40% of the area is spread out in the villages of Tan Thao, Huoi Duong, Nong Quynh, Quynh Tien, Binh Minh and Thong Nhat sub-areas...

Mr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The commune strives to achieve a major crop output of 102,000 tons by 2030; continue to plan agricultural areas focusing on applying high technology, developing organic agriculture associated with digital transformation. Focus on researching and converting crop and livestock varieties with economic value; exploiting land advantages to develop key products, forming large-scale commodity production areas, promoting mechanization and automation, ensuring food safety and meeting consumption and export standards.

In addition, coordinate to develop raw material areas to serve processing factories in the area and neighboring areas, such as Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company, Son La Coffee Processing Joint Stock Company, Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company, BHL Son La Agricultural Products Processing Joint Stock Company, Son La Sugarcane Joint Stock Company... Forming a production - processing - consumption chain, gradually building an agricultural product supply chain and logistics system.

The application of high technology in fruit tree development in Mai Son commune has created a breakthrough, shifting from traditional production to safe, organic, VietGAP; forming specialized areas with economic value, providing products to meet demand, compete in the market and promote local socio-economy.
