Funeral and burial of 12 martyrs' remains left in Laos

On the morning of May 21, at the Hue City Martyrs' Cemetery, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thua Thien Hue province solemnly held a memorial service and buried the remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who heroically sacrificed their lives in Laos to their final resting place.

Attending the ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and representatives of the leaders of Sekong and Salavan provinces, Laos.

According to Steering Committee 515 of Thua Thien Hue province, during the 2023-2024 dry season, officers and soldiers of Collection Team 192 - Military Command of this province surveyed and collected in 8 districts of Salavan province and 3 districts of Sekong province (Laos); searched hundreds of locations and excavated 12 martyrs' graves, all without information on name, age, and hometown.

On May 19, Thua Thien Hue province received and brought the remains of 12 martyrs back to the motherland for burial.

At the ceremony, in a solemn atmosphere, delegates, people and students of Thua Thien Hue province respectfully bowed, observed a minute of silence, offered flowers and incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation and fulfilling the noble international mission.

Reading the eulogy at the memorial service, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515, affirmed that the image, qualities, morality and great sacrifice of the heroic martyrs are shining symbols of revolutionary heroism, the burning desire for independence, freedom and happiness for the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

Searching for and gathering the remains of martyrs who died in Laos is a sacred and meaningful task, a noble gesture of the living towards the deceased.

This is an important and urgent task, a sentiment to repay the great service of the martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the revolutionary cause of the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos, and at the same time demonstrate responsibility towards the relatives and comrades of the martyrs.

After the memorial service, the martyrs' remains were buried at the Hue City Martyrs' Cemetery.
