Students participate in the Exam Season Consulting program of Thanh Nien Newspaper
Students have the highest employment rate of over 97%
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that according to the training regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, there are currently 4 groups of arts majors: 6 majors in fine arts, 21 majors in performing arts, 3 majors in audiovisual arts, and 4 majors in applied arts. Of which, the 4 majors in the field of applied arts that are currently studied the most by candidates include: industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, stage and cinema art design.
In 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training announced statistics on the situation of students finding jobs after 12 months of graduation from 2018-2021. Accordingly, some fields leading the rate of students having jobs are: engineering; arts; agriculture, forestry and fisheries; environment and environmental protection... In 4 years, the rate of students having jobs in the arts field fluctuated from 93.5-97.1%. In about 4 years, arts and engineering are the 2 fields that have the highest rate of over 97% in some years.
Regarding this figure, Dr. Hai commented: "The number may be surprising because art is not among the majors with the most registered students. But in contrast to the majors with the highest registered students, art has a higher employment rate. For example, in 2020, this rate in the art field was up to 97% - meaning that for every 10 students graduating after 1 year, almost all of them have a job."

3 reasons
Explaining this phenomenon, Dr. Hai said that, among the 24 training fields corresponding to 377 majors, art is the field with a relatively small number of candidates registering to study compared to other fields, ranking only 13th out of 24 fields. In 2023, the percentage of successful candidates accounted for only 1.36% of the total number of candidates admitted to university, equivalent to about 8,000 students. Of the more than 1 million students taking the high school graduation exam, only about 8,000 students studied at university in the field of art. In 2022, the number of students admitted to this field was slightly higher but still less than 9,000 people.
"When the number of students is low, the level of competition among graduates is not high, leading to a high employment rate for students," said Mr. Hai.
Besides, Dr. Hai said that one reason could be that this field requires students to have certain talents. For example, in the high school program, drawing is not a core subject, but to be admitted to the architecture major, candidates need to take a drawing exam.
"In addition, part of the reason may be due to the impact of the 4.0 industrial revolution. In a world where technology is developing rapidly, the artistic, humanistic, psychological aspects of people are more important than ever," added the Vice President of Duy Tan University.
The above information was shared in Thanh Nien Newspaper's online television consulting program with the topic "Choosing a major for the future: Design, fine arts, architecture" on the afternoon of March 26.
