Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh emphasized that Ha Tinh needs to carefully prepare the contents and ensure a scientific basis for the proposal to stop the Thach Khe iron ore mining and processing project, from which the Politburo will soon discuss and have an official opinion.

On the morning of November 15, Comrade Tran Tuan Anh - Politburo member, Head of the Central Economic Commission led a working delegation to inspect and survey the Thach Khe iron mine project and production and business activities of a number of enterprises in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, and the aquaculture model in Ky Anh town. This is an activity to serve the review of 5 years of implementing Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW dated October 22, 2018 of the 12th Party Central Committee on the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The delegation included Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Duy Hung; Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment Ta Dinh Thi; Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army. Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh and the working delegation inspected and grasped the living conditions, thoughts and aspirations of officials and people in the coastal communes of Thach Ha district; and listened to people's feedback related to the Thach Khe iron mine project.
The working group listened to the sharing about the difficult lives of people in the mining area.
Thach Khe iron mine (Thach Ha district) has a reserve of about 544 million tons, located in 5 coastal communes of Thach Ha district including: Thach Khe, Dinh Ban, Thach Hai, Thach Tri and Thach Lac. The total land area used for the project is 4,821 hectares. This area is located 8 km east of Ha Tinh city, 1.6 km from the East coast.
The Thach Khe iron ore mining project was put into operation in 2008. Since 2011, the project has been forced to suspend due to many environmental, social and feasibility consequences.
The delegation also inspected the production activities of Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation (FHS) in Vung Ang Economic Zone.

In the first 9 months of 2023, FHS achieved steel billet output of 4,289.6 thousand tons; finished steel output of 3,412.9 thousand tons; electricity output of 2,954 million kWh. Net revenue from industrial production activities in the first 9 months of 2023 reached 3.072 billion USD; taxes and payments to the State budget are estimated at 5,901 billion VND; import-export activities reached 3,899 million USD, of which import turnover reached 1,935 million USD; export turnover reached 1,964 million USD. The enterprise is creating jobs for 11,319 workers.
Also at Vung Ang Economic Zone, Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh and the delegation inspected the operation of the VINES Battery Factory under VINES Ha Tinh Energy Solutions Joint Stock Company. The project was approved for investment in October 2021, with a total registered investment capital of VND 3,800 billion. To date, the project has completed the installation and testing of the production line and is currently carrying out the project completion acceptance procedures at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

VINES Battery Factory uses advanced technology according to American and European standards, with an automation rate of over 80%. This is the most modern battery factory in Vietnam, with a capacity of 100,000 battery packs/year.
The delegation also inspected the Growbest shrimp farming project, implemented by Growbest Ha Tinh Company Limited since 2014 in Ky Phuong and Ky Nam communes (Ky Anh town) with a total investment of nearly 100 billion VND (area of 36.8 hectares).

Through inspection and survey at the Thach Khe iron ore mining and processing project, Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh shared the difficulties of the locality, especially the people in the project area.
The Head of the Central Economic Commission emphasized that the Central Committee, ministries and branches always listen to Ha Tinh's viewpoint on the proposal to stop the exploitation of Thach Khe iron mine; support the viewpoint of protecting the environment and ensuring social security. In order to have a basis for reporting to the Politburo, Ha Tinh needs to carefully prepare the contents, ensuring a scientific and rigorous basis, from which the Central Committee will soon discuss and have an official opinion on the project.
The Head of the Central Economic Commission also highly appreciated Ha Tinh's efforts in promoting the advantages of seaports to attract investment, contributing to the development of coastal industries. Investors and enterprises have effectively exploited the advantages of seaports and coastlines, boldly invested, expanded their scale, applied science and technology to production, created high economic value and created jobs and income for the people.
Continuing the working program, this afternoon (November 15), Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh had a working session with the Standing Committee of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee.
