Busan is the largest seaport in Korea and the 6th largest container port, the 2nd largest container transshipment port in the world , and a cargo transshipment hub between seaports on the west coast of Japan and northern China. Busan operates hundreds of fixed-line container service cargo vessels every week, connecting with large and small seaports in more than 100 countries around the world.

Busan City aims to develop the Port into a center of the logistics and maritime industry in Northeast Asia. Busan Port is equipped with four modern ports: North Port, South Port, Dadaepo Port and Gamcheon Port. The Port is also building environmentally friendly spaces.

The seaport is fully automated, localized, and environmentally friendly; technologies applied here include artificial intelligence. The port automates the entire process, from self-creating routes, automatically loading and unloading goods at the exact time, selecting optimal locations, and external vehicle operations. Setting new operating standards with a system, without humans, maximizing safety through remote control, precision, ensuring consistent quality and productivity; aiming to transition to automation through AI integration in the future.

The trend of establishing smart ports is currently accelerating worldwide. Smart port technology is essential for the sustainable development and competitiveness of the port sector. The Korean government will continue to support the industry and develop technology to ensure the construction and expansion of a nationwide network of smart ports.

The port is not only a transit point for goods but also possesses a comprehensive logistics ecosystem; public-private partnership is the driving force for development; physical infrastructure is combined with digital infrastructure; science, technology and national strategy are combined with market capacity.

The General Secretary shared that Vietnam is increasingly integrating deeply, the successful lessons of Korea, including Busan Port, are vivid practices that can be shared for Vietnam to build a development strategy suitable to its own context. As a country with a sea and a central geographical location in Southeast Asia, Vietnam also aims to build modern port clusters, apply digital technology, operate according to green standards, be environmentally friendly, closely linked to economic corridors and international logistics networks. Plan a number of port clusters in the direction of becoming international transit ports, capable of receiving large ships, meeting the global supply chain and playing a connecting role between Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.

The General Secretary is very interested in the development strategy of Busan Port and wishes to strengthen cooperation between Busan Port and other seaports in Vietnam; invest in building new generation seaports in Hai Phong City, Da Nang City, Ho Chi Minh City, Gia Lai, An Giang, Ca Mau, etc.; support the training of engineers and experts in maritime operations, which will be the team to build the foundation for cooperation in the coming time.
