Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong reported to the General Secretary on the results of the Embassy's work, the situation of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Indonesia, and the work with the Vietnamese community in the area. The Ambassador said that the Vietnamese community in Indonesia currently has more than 500 people, with stable lives, solidarity, helping each other to improve, abiding by the law and integrating well into the local society, enthusiastically participating in activities organized by the Embassy such as National Day meetings and traditional Tet. Although the number of overseas Vietnamese is still modest, in the community there are a number of Vietnamese business representatives who have successfully built Vietnamese brands, leaving their mark on the local market, while a number of overseas Vietnamese are working for international and regional organizations such as the ASEAN Secretariat and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN Ton Thi Ngoc Huong emphasized the historical significance of General Secretary To Lam's visit to the ASEAN Secretariat on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN; reported on the ASEAN cooperation situation and Vietnam's participation in ASEAN. During the 3 decades of joining ASEAN, Vietnam has always fulfilled its role as an active, proactive and responsible member.
On behalf of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia, some community representatives expressed their honor to meet General Secretary To Lam, expressing their pride and emotion when witnessing the strong development of the country in all aspects. The community representatives believe that Vietnam's increasingly high position in the international arena is a driving force for each overseas Vietnamese to be more confident and attached to their roots, and at the same time thanked the Party and State for their attention to the overseas Vietnamese community in general and in Indonesia in particular.
At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his joy and emotion at the warm and affectionate atmosphere of the homeland, and warmly greeted the people, officials and staff of the Embassy, the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to ASEAN, as well as representatives of the community, businesses and Vietnamese students in Indonesia. General Secretary To Lam emphasized that this visit to Indonesia has special significance, taking place in the context of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1955-2025), the 30th anniversary of Vietnam joining ASEAN, and both countries celebrating the 80th anniversary of their founding, which are important events contributing to further strengthening the traditional friendship that has been cultivated by the leaders of the Party, State and people of the two countries, including the Vietnamese community in Indonesia.
General Secretary To Lam informed the people about the domestic situation, the achievements, and the efforts to innovate to promote the country's socio-economic development; affirmed that under the leadership of the Party, the determination of the entire political system and all classes of people, including 6 million overseas Vietnamese, as well as the support of international friends, Vietnam has been developing in a positive direction, aiming to achieve the double-digit growth target. On this occasion, the General Secretary also welcomed and appreciated the efforts of the Vietnamese community in Indonesia, although not as large as in some other countries, they always work hard, do business successfully, and make many positive contributions to the local society.
The General Secretary affirmed that the Party and State always pay attention to the overseas Vietnamese community in general and the Vietnamese community in Indonesia in particular; considering the community an inseparable part, an important resource of the nation. The policies of the Party and State have been concretized and implemented in caring for the overseas Vietnamese community, supporting them to have a solid legal status, stabilize their lives, and integrate into the host society; firmly consolidate the great national unity bloc; encourage and create conditions for them to actively contribute to the cause of national construction and defense; actively coordinate to resolve proposals, problems, and difficulties of overseas Vietnamese.
The General Secretary said that in the upcoming talks with Indonesia, he will ask the Indonesian side to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study, work and integrate actively and responsibly, contributing to the development of the host country and to the relationship between the two countries.
Also on this occasion, General Secretary To Lam had a short meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese Delegation to ASEAN.
