At the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and his wife, on the morning of August 18, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his wife, together with a high-ranking delegation of the Party and State, left Hanoi for a State visit to China from August 18 to 20, 2024.

On the morning of August 18, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam departed for a state visit to China.

The delegation included Politburo members Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Le Minh Hung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Organization Commission; Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security.

The delegation included Party Central Committee Secretaries: Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission; Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; Party Central Committee members: Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Prime Minister; Nguyen Khac Dinh, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly and a number of Party Central Committee members who are leaders of ministries, branches and central agencies; Assistant to the General Secretary and President; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the People's Republic of China.

This is the first foreign visit of General Secretary and President To Lam in his new position, demonstrating the high importance of the Vietnamese Party and State to developing the friendly neighborly relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and China.

The visit takes place at a crucial time for each Party, each country and the Vietnam-China relationship. Vietnam is striving to successfully implement the goals and tasks set out in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; reviewing 40 years of renovation and gradually implementing preparations for the 14th National Congress. China is stepping up the implementation of development tasks and goals, deepening reforms identified at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

Vietnam-China relations have maintained a very positive development momentum and achieved many important achievements in all fields. The two sides agreed to continue to deepen and elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, build a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of strategic significance, and strive for the happiness of the people of the two countries, for the cause of peace and progress of mankind.

During this visit, Vietnam hopes to work with China to promote the implementation of high-level joint agreements, especially those reached during the historic visit of late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to China in 2022 and the visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam in 2023, in the spirit of strengthening and deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and building a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of strategic significance.

On this occasion, senior leaders of the two Parties and two countries continued to deeply discuss strategies, identify major directions and measures to promote the Vietnam-China relationship to develop more stably, substantially and effectively in the coming time.
