Residents of Song Tri ward living in key areas that are likely to be strongly affected by storm No. 5 have been evacuated to safety.

Storm No. 5 is approaching, Ha Tinh is currently raining heavily, the wind is whistling through every roof, every tree, every ripe rice field that has not been harvested yet. People are worried, the government is busy, and in that urgency, there are still gentle things that come through every wind, that is human love, a quiet sharing but enough to dispel all worries and insecurities.

In Song Tri ward - one of the vulnerable points, more than 260 people were urgently evacuated to a safe shelter at the old headquarters of the People's Committee of Ky Loi commune. They came together with nothing, some contributed bags of rice, some brought blankets, rice cookers... With the thoughtful care and responsibility of the functional forces, organizations and kind-hearted people, they were helped to have a safe shelter full of humanity.

Outside the storm is raging, inside are meals filled with love, soothing people's hearts in the midst of the storm.

In the cramped but cozy storm shelter, hot meals were passed around. Bottles of water, cartons of milk for children, and bread with the aroma of the oven… were all carefully prepared and distributed. No one thought that in the midst of the storm, one could feel so peaceful, a peace that came from the hearts of people, from the way people looked at each other with eyes of sympathy, encouragement, and support.

"At the concentrated storm shelter areas, the ward has carefully prepared living supplies, clean and spacious sanitation facilities so that people can feel secure in taking shelter. In particular, suitable meals with adequate nutrition have been arranged for people during the shelter period," said Mr. Phan Van Quang - Chairman of Song Tri Ward People's Committee.

Also on that storm-fighting morning, in Dong Loc commune, a deaf-mute man, panicking in the rain and wind, was found and brought home in a journey that just hearing about it was enough to make you cry.

At 7am on August 25, the weather began to change, with torrential rains making the road slippery and dangerous. Dong Loc Commune Police received reports from local residents about a man around 30 years old who could not speak or hear, was mentally disturbed and could not remember the way home. He had no papers, no relatives nearby, only a tired body and a blank look in the middle of the rain and wind.

Immediately, the police force took him to the headquarters, fed him, and encouraged him to stabilize his spirit. During the following hours, they quietly searched for clues, contacted neighboring communes, used paper and pen, symbols, eyes, and smiles to communicate with him. And they did what seemed impossible: verifying the identity of Tran Dinh Viet (born in 1994, from Tan Ha village, Ha Linh commune - a disabled person in difficult circumstances).

Not to let the family worry for a minute longer, that very morning, Dong Loc Commune Police decided to take Viet home. They traveled nearly dozens of kilometers in heavy rain, strong winds, flooded roads, and fallen tree branches blocking the way. When Viet stepped into the alley, his elderly mother burst into tears. She cried because she was happy that strangers were willing to help her son like a family member.

When storm No. 5 was forecast to hit Ha Tinh with strong intensity, authorities at all levels urgently evacuated people from dangerous areas. Many families were confused and did not know where to go, but the Hai Thuy Hotel system (Song Tri ward) proactively opened its doors, ready to receive people to take shelter completely free of charge.

Hai Thuy Hotel System takes care of all accommodation and meals, with priority given to disadvantaged families, the elderly, women and children.

On the afternoon of August 24, Ms. Le Thi Thuy - owner of Hai Thuy Hotel chain announced on Facebook that the first facility at the Viet - Laos intersection, Song Tri ward and the second facility in Hoanh Son ward, opposite Formosa gate, will open to welcome people. She committed to taking care of all accommodation and meals, giving priority to poor families, the elderly, women and children. Currently, the two facilities have received and arranged safe accommodation for 30 people to take shelter from storm No. 5.

“We have arranged clean rooms, prepared necessities, spare food and supported collective cooking. The storm came unexpectedly, people had difficulty coping, so if we have the means, we have to share. This act also comes from the love of the people who always know how to help each other in difficult times,” Ms. Thuy shared.

Ms. Le Thi Lan (Hai Thanh TDP, Song Tri Ward) brought her 3 children to Hai Thuy Hotel at facility 1 to seek shelter from storm No. 5. Ms. Lan confided: “Our house is close to the sea, so every time a storm comes, we are always worried. My husband works far away, so there are only 4 of us at home. This time, the hotel gave me free accommodation, warm blankets, clean beds, I feel like a burden has been lifted. The most precious thing is not only a roof to shelter from the storm, but also human love, sharing in times of trouble…”.

According to quick statistics, currently, in Song Tri ward, 279 households with 640 people from Hai Thanh, Hai Phong and Hai Phong 2 residential areas have been evacuated to safe shelters. The fact that a private enterprise like Hai Thuy Hotel proactively opened its doors and shared difficulties with the community has been recognized by the government and the people, considering this a practical and humane action.

Mr. Pham Cong An - Head of TDP3 - where the hotel is located said: "In the most difficult times, the actions of Hai Thuy Hotel not only contributed to ensuring the safety of the people but also created a bright spot in the spirit of solidarity, the strong helping the weak. This is a testament that all social resources can participate in supporting the community when natural disasters strike...".

Storm No. 5 is still evolving in a complicated manner, but in the midst of the storm, the act of kindness of Hai Thuy Hotel has created a beautiful, heartwarming story. People not only found a safe place to take shelter but also felt more clearly the care and sharing from the community.

In the midst of the storm, there were people carrying old people through floodwaters. There were people bringing bowls of porridge to children with high fevers. There were people driving through the night just to bring a stranger home. And there were also people silently giving up their blankets, sharing their beds, exchanging their last meals so that others could be full. That is the people of Ha Tinh in particular during the storm, and the people of Vietnam in any hardship. Storms may come, and then go. But humanity remains – silent, resilient, and full of love.
