In the first 6 months of the year, there were 9,398 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 5,293 people and injuring 6,246 people. Compared to the same period in 2024, there were a decrease of 3,009 cases (-24.25%), a decrease of 201 deaths (-3.66%), and a decrease of 3,203 injuries (-33.9%).

Nationwide, 33 provinces and centrally-run cities have a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2024, of which the provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Ha Giang have a decrease of over 35% in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents.

The national traffic police force has inspected and handled over 1.6 million cases of traffic safety violations, fined over VND3,542 billion, revoked over 149,000 driving licenses, certificates, and professional qualifications, and detained over 424,000 vehicles of all kinds.

In addition to the achieved results, the country still has 4 localities with the number of deaths due to traffic accidents increasing by over 30% including: Kien Giang, Lai Chau, Ca Mau and Long An ; traffic accidents still occur related to drug use, using phones while driving, not wearing seat belts when sitting in cars...

In Dak Lak province, there were 284 traffic accidents, killing 209 people and injuring 176 people, compared to the same period in 2024, a decrease of 56 cases (-17.5%), a decrease of 4 deaths (-3.75%), and a decrease of 53 injuries (-22.95%).

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha stated that the first 6 months of 2025 is the first phase of synchronous implementation of new regulations of the Road Traffic Safety Law, Road Law, Decree 168. Thanks to the drastic and synchronous implementation of solutions, the traffic accident situation nationwide has significantly decreased, common violations such as drinking alcohol, speeding or running red lights have tended to decrease significantly.

In the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to continue to proactively follow new legal regulations and continue to effectively implement traffic safety work nationwide.

The Ministry of Public Security directed the Traffic Police and police units and localities to strengthen the handling of traffic violations, focusing on handling violations according to 6 thematic groups identified at the beginning of the year. The Ministry of Construction strengthened inspection and specialized guidance on state management tasks for localities to detect and promptly resolve problems related to ensuring traffic safety for the traffic infrastructure system.

The National Traffic Safety Committee recommends that competent authorities study and review the content of warnings for motor vehicles when there are incidents, especially on highways, and propose amendments to regulations to effectively manage the behavior of using phones while driving; advise on the development of an inter-sectoral coordination mechanism to improve the effectiveness of detecting and handling drug use while driving.

Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities shall direct the effective implementation of the temporary reorganization of local Traffic Safety Committees and commune-level Traffic Safety Committees, ensuring continuity in the performance of functions and tasks until there is a project to reorganize the National Traffic Safety Committee and Traffic Safety Committees at all levels.
