T-shirts are trending
Recently, Hanoi has exploded with concerts leading up to the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2. The most notable ones are V Concert - Radiant Vietnam, V Fest - Radiant Youth and Fatherland in the Heart... All were organized grandly, welcoming tens of thousands of spectators at each event.
In the festive atmosphere, the most visible sight is the sea of people appearing in traditional Vietnamese costumes. Besides the ao dai, national flags in hand, conical hats, scarves... the most popular are T-shirts printed with the red flag with yellow star, the word "Vietnam", messages or patriotic patterns.

Not only at concerts, patriotic T-shirts are easily seen everywhere during this time, from real life to social networks. Around Hoan Kiem Lake area, it is not difficult to see groups of people gathering on the lake shore to take pictures, even on weekdays when there is no walking street. In the crowd pouring into Hanoi Opera House on the morning of August 20, to get tickets to the Vietnam in Me concert, there were glimpses of people wearing patriotic T-shirts.
Having an appointment with friends to take photos at Hoan Kiem Lake area on the morning of August 20, Ms. Tran Hua Mai (Tuong Mai, Hanoi) wore a shirt with a picture of a bus carrying a group of people happily moving forward, along with the slogan "Warmth - Happiness".
Ms. Mai revealed that in addition to T-shirts, she also bought scarves printed with Uncle Ho's mausoleum and yellow star hats through e-commerce platforms.
Regarding the reason for choosing patriotic T-shirts, Ms. Mai said that she only experienced the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2nd once in her life, and wanted to preserve this special occasion with her friends through photos that best represented the Vietnamese spirit. Besides, according to Ms. Mai, T-shirts are affordable, less than 200,000 VND/piece, and can be used every day.
Ms. Le Thuy (Cau Dien) also invited her friends to Hanoi's Old Quarter to take photos on the weekend, wearing the group uniform of red flag shirts with yellow stars. She said that seeing everyone competing to show off their photos on social media, she was also eager to "catch the trend". She assessed that this is an easy trend to respond to, and meaningful, there is no reason to miss it.
“I want to express my love and pride for my birthplace through the red flag with yellow star shirt - the symbol of the country. Wearing a patriotic T-shirt and listening to the national anthem in the middle of the walking street gives me a special feeling, both nostalgic and full of enthusiasm in my heart,” Ms. Le Thuy expressed.

Ms. Nhat Le (Thanh Xuan) ordered a patriotic-themed T-shirt on the website of a local brand for nearly 250,000 VND. The highlight of the shirt is the back printed with a signpost, with motifs such as "+84" (Vietnam's international area code), "Vietnam", "Proud", "Independence - Freedom - Happiness". The front is printed with a mini version of the national flag.
Ms. Nhat Le said that the purpose of buying the shirt was not to "live a virtual life", but to wear it everyday. According to the female bank employee, this is the easiest way to show patriotism before the big national holiday.
Patriotism in a popular way
These T-shirts are basic in style, usually short-sleeved, round-necked, and straight-cut or oversized. The colors are also simple, mostly black, white, beige, or red.
The highlight is the image or message printed on the shirt. The most popular motifs during the upcoming National Day on September 2nd are the national flag, young women wearing Ao Dai, soldiers, conical hats, maps of Vietnam or famous landmarks such as Uncle Ho's mausoleum... Accompanying the images are meaningful messages such as "I love Vietnam", "Vietnam", "Independence - Freedom - Happiness" (or individual words), "Proud to be Vietnamese", "National Day September 2nd", "Warmth - Happiness"...
Prices for the items range from 100,000-300,000 VND, and many attractive promotions are also applied such as discounts or free accessories such as cloth bags with patriotic messages... as the great festival is getting closer.
Customers can easily buy patriotic T-shirts at traditional stores and on e-commerce platforms.
Staff at the C. brand store on Ba Trieu Street (Hanoi) said the entire system is implementing the "Patriotism from the Cradle" sales program from July 26 to September 2. The items are patriotic T-shirts for all genders and ages.
The average price of this product is 299,000 VND/adult shirt and 169,000 VND/child shirt. However, customers rarely have to buy at the original price because the brand applies the program of buy 2 get 20% off and buy 3 get 30% off.
According to staff, in August, patriotic T-shirts were the best-selling product, selling three times more than other items, as well as the previous month's sales. Customers bought the most shirts with the red flag and yellow star and the word "Vietnamese" printed on them.
Meanwhile, on the S e-commerce platform, many online stores recorded thousands of patriotic T-shirts sold, even exceeding the 10,000 mark.
Different from traditional costumes, patriotic T-shirts have a modern feel, suitable for everyday life. They are considered a new cultural symbol - expressing love for the homeland and national pride through modern fashion , without being fussy or ostentatious.
