Promoting Vietnam-Algeria people-to-people exchange in the new period

August 12 in Hanoi , Vietnam-Algeria Friendship Association held the 4th Congress, term 2025-2030. The event took place in a solemn atmosphere, with the participation of Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van, Chargé d'Affaires of the Algerian Embassy in Vietnam Ouhaddad Mohamed, representatives of a number of departments, ministries, branches, socio- political organizations, businesses and a large number of members.

The report at the Congress showed that during the 2016-2025 term, the Association has carried out many people-to-people diplomacy activities, promoting its important role as a bridge between the people of the two countries. Notable events include the 55th (2017) and 60th (2022) Anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Algeria diplomatic relations, with film screenings, photo exhibitions, and art performances, contributing to promoting the image of the country, people and friendship of the two nations.

In the context of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic in Algeria, the Association has mobilized nearly 200 million VND to support medical supplies and masks for the people of Algeria. The Association also sponsored the staging and performance of the play The Rubber Sandal Man on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, leaving a deep impression on bilateral cultural exchange.

The visits and working sessions arranged by the Association have promoted the twinning relationship between Batna Province (Algeria) and Dien Bien Province (Vietnam), opening up a potential direction for local cooperation. The Association also maintains exchanges with the Algerian Embassy, organizes seminars, film screenings, and exhibitions to enhance understanding and connect the people of the two countries.

Besides the achieved results, the Association also frankly acknowledged the limitations such as the lack of diversity in its forms of operation, limited linkage with economic cooperation, and unstable financial and human resources.

The Congress elected the 4th Executive Committee consisting of 20 members and the Inspection Committee consisting of 3 members. Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van was elected as Chairman of the Association for the 2025-2030 term.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Van expressed his honor to take on this important responsibility at a time when Vietnam-Algeria relations are developing strongly. He pledged to work with the Executive Committee to continue to inherit the achievements of previous terms, while at the same time innovating and creating to bring the Association's activities to new heights, focusing on enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges, connecting localities and businesses of the two countries.

Charge d'Affaires of the Algerian Embassy Ouhaddad Mohamed expressed his gratitude to former President Le Quang Hung for his outstanding contributions, including his decisive role in promoting the signing of the Batna - Dien Bien twinning agreement and supporting the organization of the play " The Rubber Sandal Man" . He congratulated the new President Nguyen Tuong Van and expressed his hope that the Association would continue to accompany the Embassy in cooperation projects, expanding twinning between localities such as Ho Chi Minh City with Oran, Binh Dinh with Algerian provinces with similarities.

In his speech, VUFO Vice President Nguyen Ngoc Hung highly appreciated the achievements of the Association in the past term, especially its proactiveness and flexibility in difficult conditions. He suggested that the new term of the Association should soon develop a specific action plan, linking friendship activities with economic and trade cooperation, supporting Vietnamese enterprises to invest in priority Algerian fields such as high-tech agriculture, agricultural processing, aquaculture, construction, and consumer goods production. In addition, it is necessary to continue to innovate operating methods, diversify forms of exchange, strengthen cooperation in the fields of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and promote external propaganda.

The 4th Congress of the Vietnam-Algeria Friendship Association passed a Resolution defining the working direction for the 2025-2030 period, focusing on promoting tourism connectivity, cultural exchange, enhancing local cooperation, promoting trade and investment, and establishing relations with the Vietnamese community in Algeria.

The event ended in an atmosphere of solidarity and unity, opening up new expectations for the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Algeria, contributing to deepening the close relationship between the people of the two countries in the new development period.
