Djokovic (37 years old) has won 99 ATP titles in his career and the match with 19-year-old opponent Jakub Mensik (ranked 54th in the world) is a good opportunity for him to reach the milestone of 100 championships.
While Mensik has yet to win any ATP titles, this match means a lot to him, as he gets to face his childhood "idol". Beating your idol on a big stage like the Miami Open, is surely one of the most incredible experiences one can have in the world of sports.
That's what Jakub Mensik did, he proved himself worthy of a grand tournament.
From the very first set, Mensik showed incredible determination and bravery to hold the match to a 6-6 draw and take the match to a tie-break. And the 19-year-old Czech player won the tie-break 7-4 to temporarily lead 1-0.
The second set was even more exciting, as he unleashed a series of attacks that Djokovic struggled to defend against.
However, Djokovic tried to maintain his form to level the score at 6-6 in this set and lead to another tie-break. And once again, the Serbian legend lost 4-7 in the tie-break and had to watch his opponent win the championship.
This is the first ATP title of Mensik's career. He became the second youngest champion in the history of this tournament, after Carlos Alcaraz (who lifted the trophy in 2022) at the age of 18. Djokovic will have to continue searching for the 100th title of his career.
