After a sluggish start, the stock market was under strong selling pressure in the middle of the session and fell sharply at the end of the morning session on August 20.
Specifically, VN-Index decreased by 20.98 points to 1,633.22 points, with a trading volume of more than 1.55 billion shares, equivalent to a value of more than VND42,823.2 billion. The entire floor had only 58 stocks increasing in price, while there were 282 stocks decreasing in price and 33 stocks remaining unchanged.
On the HNX, the HNX-Index decreased by 8.3 points to 278.15 points, with trading volume reaching more than 137.7 million shares, equivalent to a value of more than VND3,142.2 billion. There were 29 stocks increasing, 146 stocks decreasing and 33 stocks remaining unchanged.
UPCOM-Index decreased 0.43 points to 109.35 points, trading volume reached more than 85.3 million shares, equivalent to a value of more than VND 1,210 billion, with 68 codes increasing, 171 codes decreasing and 77 codes remaining unchanged.
Red gradually dominated the VN30-Index basket. Stock codesACB , HPG, VJC and MBB created the greatest downward pressure on the index, while VIC, MWG, TCB and VIB were the stocks supporting the market, preventing the VN-Index from falling further.
The banking stock group still has some codes increasing in price, but red dominates with LPB, ACB, STB, HDB, VPB, BAB, EIB, BID, NVB, VCB,SHB , MBB, SGB, VAB, TPB.
Red also spread to securities, insurance, and real estate groups, along with steel, oil and gas, chemicals, construction, and materials groups, all of which decreased in points.
The morning session of August 20 showed that investors were still cautious in the face of strong selling pressure across the board. Red dominated most large- and mid-cap stocks, indicating that the correction could continue in the afternoon session if demand does not recover strongly./.
