Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen has just signed a document to send to the Prime Minister on the pilot use of sea sand as filling material for the Vinh Thanh Industrial Park project phase 1 (also known as VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park).

According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the city is implementing key projects such as the Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway and the VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park, Phu My Industrial Park... The demand for sand filling materials is very large, about 70 million cubic meters, leading to a shortage of filling materials, affecting the progress and quality of investment projects.

At the same time, the pilot use of sea sand for key traffic projects has initially achieved some positive results. Therefore, the People's Committee of Can Tho City respectfully submits to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of the pilot use of sea sand as filling material for the VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park project of VSIP Can Tho Joint Stock Company on the basis of technical solutions proposed by the project owner to ensure full implementation of regulations, standards, and norms on environmental protection and other relevant regulations.

Can Tho City People's Committee proposed that the Prime Minister direct the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to appraise the use of sea sand as filling material for the VSIP Can Tho project, ensuring feasibility, efficiency and sustainability.

The appraisal results will be the basis for the project owner to implement construction and protect the environment. The Ministry of Science and Technology has announced the standards for saline sand used as filling material for industrial park projects.

The Ministry of Construction provides technical guidance for localities, investors, and contractors on using sea sand as filling material for industrial park projects.

According to VSIP Can Tho Joint Stock Company, the company plans to pilot the use of sea sand to level an industrial land plot of about 16 hectares with a volume of more than 300,000 cubic meters. This land plot is expected to be handed over to secondary investors in 2026 - 2027 after the evaluation test has shown suitable results.

VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park has an area of ​​293.7 hectares, located in Vinh Thanh district with a total investment capital of over 3,717 billion VND. Currently, the investor is implementing construction, and is expected to hand over the site to secondary investors in the second quarter of 2025 to implement the construction of a production and processing factory.
