Since January 1, 2024 is Monday, plus two weekend days, workers will have three consecutive days off for New Year's Day.
The Labor Code stipulates that New Year's Day is one day off. Since January 1, 2024 is Monday, plus two weekend days, employees will have three consecutive days off.
After more than a month of New Year's holiday, workers will have a Lunar New Year holiday. The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs is proposing a 7-day Tet holiday and has put forward two options to get opinions from ministries and sectors before submitting them to the Government.
Option 1: Civil servants and public employees will be off from Thursday, February 8 to Wednesday, February 14, 2024 (ie December 29, Quy Mao year to January 5, Giap Thin year).
Under this plan, civil servants and public employees will have 7 days off (including 5 days off for Lunar New Year and 2 days off in lieu of weekly days off).
Workers get 3 days off for New Year's Day.
Option 2: The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs proposes to take 1 day off before Tet and 4 days off after Tet. Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will take a day off from Friday, February 9 to Thursday, February 15, 2024 (ie December 30, Quy Mao year to January 6, Giap Thin year).
With option two, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, civil servants and public employees will also have 7 days off (including 5 days off for Lunar New Year and 2 days off in lieu of weekly days off).
According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, both options have the same number of days off, but the ministry recommends choosing option 1 because it ensures harmony between the time off before and after.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs said that based on actual conditions and the holiday schedule applicable to civil servants and public employees, employers will arrange the Lunar New Year holiday schedule.
The State encourages businesses to apply the same holiday schedule for employees as for civil servants.
