Tanh Linh: More than 3 hectares of crops were flooded due to heavy rain, estimated damage of 2.5 billion VND

BTO-The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Tanh Linh district has just announced that the heavy rain on October 2nd has flooded over 3 hectares of crops, including rubber trees in the exploitation stage, cajuput trees and fruit trees. The water level is 0.5 - 1 m deep, of which about 0.7 hectares are locally flooded over 2 m deep. The total estimated damage is about 2.5 billion VND.

Specifically, at the above time, due to heavy rain, the water level at Suoi Mo and Suoi Gieng rose. As a result, agricultural production households could not exploit and transport rubber latex, seriously affecting the lives and economy of more than 30 households producing in this area. The cause of the flooding was determined to be due to heavy rain, water flowing through the Bien Lac - Ham Tan canal into Suoi Mo, the water could not drain in time because Suoi Mo was small and narrow.

Previously, during the heavy rains at the end of July 2023, this area was flooded, causing damage to local industrial crops. The flooding has continued to recur. In addition, heavy rains also caused the fence of Huy Khiem Commune People's Committee to collapse completely, with a length of about 25m, a height of 1.8m, and an estimated damage of about 70 million VND. In Suoi Kiet Commune, heavy rains damaged and collapsed 2 traffic works. Of which, a concrete drainage culvert, 10m long and 4m wide, collapsed and completely damaged.

This drainage culvert was invested by Binh Thuan Rubber Company in collaboration with Suoi Kiet Commune Cooperative and some agricultural households in the 814 project area since 2005, passing through Suoi Mo to serve the people's travel and agricultural product transportation needs. In addition, a communal bridge, made of concrete, iron, and wood with a length of about 8m and a width of 1.4m, collapsed and was completely damaged. This bridge was built by some agricultural households in the 814 project area since 2019, passing through Suoi Mo to serve the people's travel and production needs.

According to Mr. Mai Tri Man - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tanh Linh district, in the face of local flooding in the area of Project 814 in Suoi Kiet commune, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of the district has directed the People's Committee of Suoi Kiet commune to mobilize people to temporarily stop exploitation during heavy rains to avoid damage to people and property. At the same time, monitor the weather and flood levels, establish a working group to direct the statistics and assessment of damage to households according to regulations.
