During the working trip, the delegation worked with Senate President Ricardo de los Santos, Secretary General of the United Left Movement Party and Minister of Integration and Regional Policy José Miguel Mejía Abreu, Minister of Energy and Mines Antonio Almonte, Minister of Industry and Trade and Small and Medium Enterprises Víctor Ito Bisonó Haza, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Rubén Silié Valdez.

At the meetings and contacts, Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha emphasized that this was the first visit of the Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation to the Dominican Republic, opening a new chapter in the relationship between the two legislative bodies, thereby contributing to strengthening the traditional relationship between the two countries.

The two sides were pleased to note that the relationship between the two countries has developed positively and achieved many substantive results in recent times.

The Dominican Republic’s official opening of its embassy in Hanoi in February 2023 is an important milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two countries. This good relationship stems from the solid foundation laid by President Ho Chi Minh and the late President Juan Bosch.

The Dominican Republic's leaders expressed their admiration and respect for the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people during the struggle for national liberation as well as their efforts to rise up and achieve many spectacular socio-economic achievements in recent years, and affirmed their desire to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries in general and between the two National Assemblies in particular, thereby actively contributing to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha emphasized that Vietnam will always remember the valuable support of the Government, National Assembly and People of the Dominican Republic for Vietnam in the just struggle for independence in the past as well as in the cause of national construction and defense today, affirming that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to strengthen advisory work to support the Government in strengthening friendly relations and cooperation with the Dominican Republic.

At the meetings, the two sides said that the current bilateral economic and trade cooperation level of over 100 million USD/year is not commensurate with the good political relations and potential of the two countries.

At the working sessions, the two sides agreed to continue to strongly promote relations, especially in areas where both sides have strengths such as trade-investment, climate change response, digital transformation, renewable energy, culture, education, tourism, while creating conditions for businesses of the two countries to learn about each other's markets.

In a cordial atmosphere, President of the Dominican Republic Senate Ricardo de los Santos said that the country's Parliament had just issued a Resolution to establish the Dominican-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group on July 18.

The Parliamentary Friendship Group is chaired by Nelson Rafael Marmolejos Gil and includes representatives of political parties.

For his part, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha welcomed and highly appreciated the establishment of the Friendship Parliamentary Group by the Dominican National Assembly as soon as the delegation arrived in Dominican Republic, affirming that this is a positive signal contributing to strongly promoting the relationship between the two National Assemblies in the coming time.

Expressing his belief that the Dominican Republic-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group will play a bridging role in enhancing cooperation and sharing legislative experience, Mr. Vu Hai Ha affirmed that the Parliamentarians Group will contribute to promoting comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, including state diplomacy, parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy.

On the occasion of the working trip, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the Dominican Republic for sending their deep condolences to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Vietnamese people after learning of the passing of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha also conveyed the regards of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to President of the Senate of the Dominican Republic Ricardo de los Santos and wished to soon welcome the President of the Senate in Vietnam.

During the working trip, the delegation laid a wreath at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the capital Santo Domingo.
