Reenacting ancient royal rituals to celebrate Tet at Thang Long Imperial Citadel

On February 2 (December 23, Quy Mao year) at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site, the Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center solemnly held many ancient royal rituals to celebrate Tet such as the Tao Quan worship ceremony, releasing carp and erecting the pole.

These are practical activities to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2024) and welcome the Spring of Giap Thin 2024.

The ancient Lunar New Year began on the 23rd of December in the old year and ended on the 7th of January in the new year. In the royal court, there were many unique New Year's celebrations.

Celebrating the New Year of the Dragon, at Kinh Thien Palace, part of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel relic, representatives of Hanoi City leaders and the Organizing Committee held a ceremony to worship Tao Quan.

After performing the Tao Quan worshiping ritual, the ceremonial delegation and the celebrant brought the carp to the ancient river, discovered during the archaeological excavation at the Imperial Citadel, to release them; and performed the pole-raising ceremony in the space in front of Doan Mon.

On this occasion, to serve the needs of people and tourists to celebrate Tet and enjoy Spring, the Thang Long Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center launched many unique cultural and artistic activities: displaying traditional folk Lunar New Year customs and royal New Year rituals, with the main display contents: traditional folk Lunar New Year display space; royal New Year display space: Main Festival in the Le Trung Hung period; opening of the Hoan Kiem - Thang Long Imperial Citadel tram route.

In particular, for the first time, Thang Long Imperial Citadel opened and put into use an automatic guide system (auto guide), which opened on February 5. The entire heritage site also has "Check in" clusters to serve tourists during spring at Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
