Edit the program but not the textbook

The Ministry of Education and Training has just posted and widely solicited opinions on the draft circular amending and supplementing the General Education Program of subjects.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2018 General Education Program has been implemented for 5 years nationwide, implementing one round for all grades. The Ministry of Education and Training has organized a review and research to develop the General Education Program to find solutions to limit the shortcomings of the program, making the program more suitable to reality.

The change of administrative boundaries, the implementation of a two-level government and the amended Constitution directly affect the curriculum of four subjects: history and geography from grades 4 to 9; geography grade 12; history grade 10 and civic education ( economic and legal education, grade 10), so it is necessary to revise the curriculum of these subjects.

The draft focuses on some contents of some subjects. Specifically, the civic education program, amends and supplements the 10th grade program on the topics " Political system of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" and "Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam".

For history subject: revise and supplement the optional study topic in grade 10, the topic of Vietnamese State and law in history.

For the geography subject in history and geography: revise and supplement the curriculum in grades 4, 5, 8, 9 and geography in grade 12. The revisions are mainly about socio-economic regions such as: regional boundaries; names and number of provinces and cities, area size, population of the region; economic development resources and the development and distribution of economic sectors in socio-economic regions; administrative maps; population maps, maps of sectors and economic regions in Vietnam.

For the history subject in history and geography at secondary school level: amend and supplement the program in grade 7: the issue of historical periodization in feudal China; in grade 9: the division of stages in the renovation process in Vietnam from 1986 to present...

Textbooks will not be revised next school year

The Ministry of Education and Training also outlined four directions for amending and supplementing the General Education Program, which are: minimizing the need to revise textbooks when revising the program; revising scientifically inaccurate content; revising content affected by changes in administrative boundaries, implementing a two-level local government, and changing the Constitution.

For the program of any grade that needs to be revised, leading to the need to revise textbooks, all the limitations of the program in that grade must be revised.

The Ministry of Education and Training emphasized that in the 2025-2026 school year, general education institutions nationwide will use the selected textbooks for teaching. The Ministry of Education and Training will organize training and guidance for teachers on the revised curriculum.

The Ministry will direct the review and revision of textbooks for a number of classes in the above subjects to conform to the revised curriculum and will implement the revised textbooks from the 2026-2027 school year.

Issuance of circular amending and supplementing The general education program is the legal basis for considering and revising textbooks to suit reality.
