On September 27, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) will organize a training program to enhance green export development capacity. This is the third training course in a series of 3 courses implemented by the Trade Promotion Agency within the framework of the National Trade Promotion Program 2024 in Hanoi, Can Tho City and Ho Chi Minh City.

The program aims to support agencies, organizations and enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City, neighboring localities as well as some other provinces and cities across the country to update information on green export development, grasp and understand clearly the new laws and regulations of the EU such as CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism Act), EUDR (Regulations to reduce deforestation and forest degradation) to have plans, measures and roadmaps to adjust export production activities, maintain and develop export markets appropriately and effectively in the new context.

The training program to enhance green export development capacity in Ho Chi Minh City will be held on September 27, 2024.

Prior to the training program, the Organizing Committee conducted a survey on the specific needs of agencies and businesses for participating in the training, in order to carefully assess the expectations of delegates and potential trainees. On that basis, the Organizing Committee coordinated with experts and reporters of the program to design and adjust the training content to be appropriate and realistic to the expectations of the trainees as well as the requirements for conveying the essential content of the training topic from the government agency to the business community.

The survey results show that many enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City are still unclear about the concept and scope of “green export” in the current new context and need to learn about specific criteria and regulations for “green export”. In addition, enterprises are also interested in specific requirements for industries and products of major markets such as the EU, US, China, etc. and the standards for applying the ESG (Environment – ​​Society – Corporate Governance) sustainability reporting framework for these markets. In addition, through the training course, enterprises also expect to grasp reputable platforms and website addresses to be able to look up online instructions and application forms for green export practices.

Based on business expectations, the program will be adjusted to closely follow and respond to issues that businesses need to know and be equipped with to "export green" proficiently and effectively in the coming time.

Specifically, this training program will focus on analyzing some aspects of green export, including information on EUDR regulations, assessing the impact of EUDR on export, opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese enterprises, the implementation status of EUDR in other countries, guiding enterprises on EUDR compliance measures, and how to seek support from relevant agencies and organizations to meet EUDR requirements.

At the same time, the program will also provide information about the CBAM Act, guide businesses to learn about CBAM, the roadmap for implementing CBAM, EU sanctions for exporting enterprises; assess the impact of CBAM on exports, opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese enterprises; the implementation of CBAM in other countries; share experiences in implementing CBAM, including problems that Vietnamese exporting enterprises encounter in complying with CBAM and solutions; guide the mobilization and search for resources, and support from relevant agencies to meet the requirements of CBAM.

In recent times, many businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have been quite proactive in learning about and keeping up with new export trends, so as not to be eliminated from the 'game' by the high environmental and social standards set by import markets. However, there are still a large number of businesses that need to be updated with information to change their mindset, pay closer attention to the "greenness" of the supply chain, the "greenness" in international trade to overcome the increasingly high technical barriers of foreign markets.

This training program is expected to attract about 70-80 delegates representing businesses, industry associations, business support and trade promotion organizations in the Southern region and some provinces and cities across the country. Delegates can attend the program completely free of charge.

The Trade Promotion Agency hopes that in addition to general training courses on “green export” content, in the near future it will be able to conduct in-depth training programs, providing specific support for each specific “green export” case of enterprises.
