English certificate conversion points of more than 40 universities
In this year's high school graduation exam, 12th graders will take math, literature and 2 subjects they have studied in 12th grade, including physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, economic and legal education, information technology, industrial technology, agricultural technology and foreign languages.
Thus, unlike last year, this year foreign language is not a compulsory subject, candidates can choose to take this subject or not in the graduation exam. Candidates with a foreign language certificate that meets the requirements are still allowed to use it to exempt the foreign language subject in the graduation recognition consideration, but it cannot be converted into 10 points in the graduation consideration as in previous years. Universities cannot use the converted 10 points in the graduation recognition consideration as English subject points in the admission combination as in previous years.
Therefore, according to this year's admission regulations, universities can convert foreign language certificates into foreign language subject scores to include in the admission subject group. With this regulation, in addition to using foreign language exam scores in the 2025 high school graduation exam for admission, schools all have plans to convert foreign language certificates into scores in the admission group including foreign language subjects.
The table of converted IELTS certificate scores into English scores for university admission in 2025 is as follows:
Each school has its own conversion
Depending on the viewpoint, schools have different plans for candidates with international language certificates when participating in the admission process. Looking at the table above, it can be seen that most universities start converting to 10 points for English with IELTS certificates from 7.0 and above. However, at this IELTS score level, some schools only convert to 8.5-9.5 points equivalent to English in the admission combination.
For example, the Diplomatic Academy stipulates that candidates who achieve 7.0 IELTS are only equivalent to 8.5 points in English; candidates with 8.5 IELTS or higher can convert it to 10 points. The Academy also only accepts the conversion of this certificate from a score of 6.0, equivalent to 7.5 points in English.
Meanwhile, the University of Commerce accepts the conversion into 10 points for English subjects for candidates with IELTS certificates of 5.0 or higher.
Candidates should also note that, in addition to the IELTS certificate, many universities also use other foreign language certificates with equivalent conversion rates to English subject scores in the admission combination. On the contrary, some universities do not convert scores from foreign language certificates to foreign language subject scores in the admission combination. Candidates using combinations containing this subject must take the exam to get admission results.
