IFAD Vice President visits and works in Bac Kan province

BBK - On April 15, within the framework of his working trip to Vietnam, Mr. Donal Brown, Vice President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) visited and worked in Bac Kan province to survey IFAD's activities in building sustainable agricultural value chains.

Attending the working session with the IFAD delegation were comrades: Nguyen Dang Binh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nong Quang Nhat, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial CSSP Project Steering Committee and representatives of a number of relevant departments and branches.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged results achieved in the implementation of IFAD projects in Bac Kan, and discussed cooperation orientations in the coming time.

After more than 15 years of implementation in Bac Kan, IFAD-funded projects have brought many positive results to the province: Supporting land allocation and granting forestry land use right certificates to over 18,800 households, with a total area of ​​over 62,000 hectares; building nearly 470 infrastructure works serving over 22,800 households; establishing and supporting 950 interest groups and cooperatives attracting the participation of over 11,400 households, including over 7,100 poor and near-poor households.

Through the APIF Fund, the project has supported 19 enterprises and cooperatives, bringing practical benefits to more than 9,500 households. These results have contributed to fundamentally changing the face of rural areas, equipping people with knowledge and skills to organize production, improve income and enhance the quality of life.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Dang Binh, Chairman of the Bac Kan Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged and highly appreciated IFAD's practical support for Bac Kan province over the past time. He emphasized: In the context that Bac Kan has just been affected by storm No. 3 and many impacts from climate change, the locality really needs IFAD's support to promote the advantages of economic development from forests, support the livelihoods of people, especially the vulnerable. The provincial leaders pledged to closely coordinate with the IFAD Vietnam Office and relevant agencies to prepare the necessary conditions, ready to implement the new project as soon as possible.

On the IFAD side, Mr. Donal Brown highly appreciated the efforts of Bac Kan province in implementing projects, especially the CSSP Project - one of IFAD's typical projects in synchronously promoting support tools from the individual to the enterprise level. He emphasized: The drastic participation of local authorities is an important factor contributing to the success of the project, even in the most difficult periods.

The IFAD Vice President expressed his support for the implementation plan of the IFAD 3 Project in Bac Kan. He said that after this working trip, IFAD will accelerate the survey and project design process, with the goal of basically completing it in 2025. The new project will focus on reducing emissions through improving infrastructure and enhancing capacity to access the forest carbon credit market.

On this occasion, Mr. Donal Brown and the delegation visited Misaki Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Cho Moi district), a unit receiving funding from the CSSP Project; Ta Anh Cooperative (My Phuong commune, Ba Be district), a unit implementing the project to develop medicinal herbs under the forest canopy, where the 3PAD project issued land use right certificates./.
