According to the Can Tho City Statistics Office, Can Tho City's GRDP in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated to increase by 7.15% over the same period last year, ranking 6th in the Mekong Delta region. In the first months of 2025, trade and service activities in the city took place vigorously and bustlingly. Many festivals and cultural activities took place vibrantly, tourism revenue increased sharply compared to the same period in 2024. The contribution of a number of service sectors to the increase in added value of the entire economy in the first quarter of 2025 was such as wholesale and retail increased by 8.88%; transportation and warehousing increased by 10.73%; accommodation and catering services increased by 15.5%; administrative activities and support services increased by 10.36%; education and training increased by 12.62%... The weather was quite favorable for agricultural production, the work of monitoring and preventing plant pests and diseases was carried out regularly, promptly and effectively; the situation of livestock and poultry farming was stable, with no epidemics. Aquatic product output increased, meeting consumer and export demand, especially since the beginning of the year, the price of pangasius has increased sharply, creating motivation for farmers to renovate ponds and develop aquaculture. The added value of the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector in the first quarter of 2025 is estimated to increase by 1.49%, contributing 0.17 percentage points to the overall increase. Product tax increased by 2.43%, contributing 0.15 percentage points to the overall increase.

In the first quarter, the added value of the industrial and construction sectors increased by 7.46%, contributing 2.3 percentage points to the overall growth of the economy. Of which, the industrial sector increased by 7.06% over the same period last year. The processing and manufacturing industry is the growth driver of the entire economy with a growth rate of 7.76%. Seafood processing activities, especially enterprises producing and processing frozen shrimp, enterprises signed export orders to the markets of France, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand...; paper and paper product production increased by 37.09% because orders continuously increased... The construction sector increased by 9.29%, contributing 0.52 percentage points, of which the civil engineering construction sector increased sharply, up 34.44%. The construction of basic construction works from the beginning of the year until now has been quite favorable. Many basic construction projects from the state budget and non-state capital, mainly projects to build and upgrade roads, projects to build VSIP Can Tho industrial park... are being accelerated.

Determined to make a difference

According to the quarterly growth scenario in Plan No. 45/KH-UBND of the City People's Committee on implementing the economic growth scenario plan in 2025, in the first quarter of 2025, the GRDP growth rate increased by 9.19-9.23% over the same period last year. Although the city's socio-economic situation in the first quarter of 2025 recorded positive results, it has not yet reached the set growth rate. Striving to achieve the highest economic growth in 2025, the city requires city departments, branches, sectors and People's Committees of districts and towns to proactively and seriously perform the assigned tasks in Plan No. 45/KH-UBND according to their functions, each sector and management field in accordance with the goals and economic growth scenarios.
