VHO - On the afternoon of April 12, the Ceremony to receive the Certificate of National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Ba Duong Noi Village Kite Festival" and the title "Hanoi Traditional Craft" for the flute kite making craft of Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune, Dan Phuong district took place solemnly in Dan Phuong district (Hanoi).
At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong respectfully presented the Certificate of National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Kite Festival of Ba Duong Noi Village" to Dan Phuong district, Hong Ha commune and people of Ba Duong Noi village.
Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha awarded the Certificate of recognition of the title "Hanoi Traditional Craft" to the local government and people.
Kite Temple and Kite Festival of Ba Duong Noi village is a place to worship the God of the Delta. According to legend, this relic has existed for a long time, associated with the Kite Festival of the local residents. The outstanding value of the relic is the kite flying competition, which was awarded by feudal dynasties.
The festival is held from the 14th to the 16th of the third lunar month every year, with the meaning of praying for favorable weather, good wind, and bountiful harvests. This is a folk festival with full rules and traditional rituals that are extremely unique and distinct, only found in Ba Duong Noi village.
The craft of making kites has been passed down through many generations, from children to the elderly. Today, kite making has become a profession that brings in significant income, with 36 households and nearly 100 workers participating.
Traditional flute kites from Ba Duong Noi village have flown high at the 1000th anniversary celebration of Thang Long - Hanoi, the International Kite Festival in Hue, Do Son (Hai Phong) and many events in Thailand, China, India, Malaysia...
Many local artisans have also been awarded noble titles such as People's Artist and Meritorious Artist.
In 2024, the Ba Duong Noi village kite festival was decided by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to be listed as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage; The Ba Duong Noi village kite making profession was decided by the Hanoi People's Committee to recognize the title "Hanoi Traditional Craft".
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Dan Phuong District People's Committee Nguyen Van Duc said that receiving the title is an honor and pride for the Party Committee, government and people of Dan Phuong district, especially the people of Ba Duong Noi village, Hong Ha commune.
According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Phuong district, in recent times, the locality has focused on promoting communication, advertising, and introducing the homeland, people, cultural heritages, traditional occupations, especially the local kite festival and kite-making profession to domestic and international friends.
Proactively apply, creatively and flexibly concretize the Party and State's guidelines and policies, resolutions and directives of the city on preserving and promoting the values of cultural heritage and traditional crafts to practical conditions and situations at the grassroots level.
In particular, the investment orientation is to preserve the Dieu Temple relic and restore and embellish the relics in the area, so that the relics become human resources with the potential to promote local tourism development.
Focus on researching and planning cultural spaces, practice spaces, and experiences of Vietnamese cultural heritage and traditional crafts in Hanoi, aiming to plan Ba Duong Noi village to become one of the "creative cultural spaces" of the capital Hanoi.
“Building the national intangible cultural heritage “Duong Noi Village Kite Festival” into a typical cultural heritage, imbued with the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people; The traditional craft of making flute kites in Hanoi has a strong and everlasting vitality…”, said Mr. Nguyen Van Duc.
Immediately after the Ceremony to receive the National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Ba Duong Noi Village Kite Festival" and the Certificate of recognition of the title "Hanoi Traditional Craft", Hong Ha commune opened the Traditional Kite Flying Festival.
This year, the Ba Duong Noi village kite festival has 72 kites participating in the competition. According to traditional rules, the kites that qualify for the competition must be at least 2.2m long, 0.6m wide, have 3 flutes (the flute diameter must be 2.5cm or more), the kites must not be covered with white glossy paper... and be flown in the village fields.
The kite that flies best, flies highest and stands stillest... is the winning kite.
For local people, the image of kites flying high in the wind always brings deep pride. The Kite Festival is the thread connecting the past with the present, connecting people with nature, with eternal cultural values.
