Dong Ich Commune has a total natural land area of more than 1,224 hectares, including 800 hectares of agricultural land with a population of nearly 13,500 people in 7 villages.
Before 2020, the whole commune had more than 40 thousand rice fields, so production was only on a small scale, making it difficult to apply science and technology and mechanize production activities.
In the process of leading economic development, especially agricultural production, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Dong Ich commune realized that local agricultural production was not commensurate with the potential and advantages of land, economic efficiency was still low; agricultural products were not competitive; investment resources for agricultural production development to create high commodity value had not been well promoted. The economic restructuring as well as the innovation of production methods in agriculture were still slow, mainly small-scale and dispersed production, leading to low productivity, quality, and added value of products.
Implementing the policy of restructuring the agricultural sector of the province and district, the Party Committee of Dong Ich commune has issued a specialized Resolution on high-tech agricultural production and a project to implement economic restructuring in the form of concentrated commodity production and increasing value in each stage.
The total area of land consolidation in the four villages of Hoang Chung, Dai Lu, Tan Lap, Xuan Dan is more than 354 hectares, exceeding the plan by more than 50 hectares. Thanks to that, dozens of agricultural production models focusing on commodities, applying high technology for high economic efficiency have been formed in the commune, such as the model of growing medicinal rice on a scale of 30 hectares, growing red banana on a scale of 4 hectares in Hoang Chung village; mushroom growing model of Mr. Nguyen Van Quyet's household, Dai Lu village; asparagus growing of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loan's household, Dai Lu village...
In addition, the commune cooperated with Que Lam Group Joint Stock Company to pilot the Que Lam DT39 rice growing model in Dong Chiem area, Hoang Chung village with a scale of 15 hectares. Up to now, the commune's herbal rice products have been granted OCOP product certificates and are favored by the market; straw mushrooms and asparagus products are also supplied to the market.
Thanks to that, rice productivity in the past 5 years has reached 56 - 58 quintals/ha. In 2024, despite being heavily affected by storm No. 3, the total cultivated area of the commune reached 1,467/1,685 ha, reaching 87% of the plan (an increase of 186 ha compared to the same period in 2023). The total output of grain crops reached more than 6,412 tons, exceeding the Congress target (5,000 - 5,200 tons), ensuring food security in the area.
Along with crop development, the commune focuses on promoting diversified livestock development including pig farming, chicken farming, goat farming, beef cattle farming, snake farming, snail farming... according to a closed semi-industrial livestock farming model associated with disease safety and food hygiene and safety.
In 2024, the total herd of buffalo and cows in the commune is 979; the herd of pigs is more than 16,900; the herd of poultry is 59,650; the snake is 6,100; the fish output is estimated at 40 tons. The total herd of cattle and poultry has decreased, but the value of pigs and commercial snakes has increased, so the total income value is still the same as the same period. The proportion of livestock in the agricultural economic structure of the commune accounts for 11.9% of the total value.
Determined not to leave the hilly and forest land vacant, and furthermore, to promote the strength of the hilly and forest economy, the Party Committee and the government focus on directing and mobilizing people to promote the potential of land, labor, and develop the hilly and forest economy. Actively maintain, care for, and protect 97.22 hectares of garden land, hilly land, and production forest land, and prevent forest fires from occurring in the area. Develop hilly and garden economic models, associated with livestock farming, exploiting and effectively promoting the potential of land and labor.
Thanks to the conversion of crop structure, application of science and technology in fields and livestock, the economic growth rate of the commune in 2024 will reach 6.32%. Of which, agriculture, forestry and fishery account for 20.92% of the economic structure, an increase of 8.39% compared to 2023, contributing to raising the total production value of the whole commune to 981.21 billion VND (an increase of 58.29 billion VND), average income per capita will reach 72.9 million VND/person/year, an increase of 4.3 million VND/person/year compared to 2023.
Secretary of Dong Ich Commune Party Committee Tran Van Duong said: Promoting the strengths of land and natural conditions near Pho Day River, the commune focuses on directing the completion of land consolidation, developing large-scale fields, concentrated agricultural production areas, creating conditions for the application of science, technology, high technology, and effectively bringing mechanization into agricultural production.
The restructuring of the commune's agricultural sector in recent years has been carried out in the direction of stabilizing the area, strongly developing cultivation and livestock farming associated with disease safety; increasing the proportion of livestock farming in the agricultural economic structure, bringing high productivity and added value.
Agricultural production models in Dong Ich are still in the early stages of formation but have brought high economic efficiency compared to traditional agricultural production. The greater benefit is that through production models applying science, technology, high technology, and mechanization in effective production, it has positively impacted people's agricultural production thinking, which is to produce concentrated goods according to the method of green, clean, and food-safe agricultural production in a modern direction.
However, the current difficulty of high-tech agricultural production models being formed locally is the cost of accumulating, improving land, seedlings and large greenhouses. Therefore, people really need the attention and help of authorities to consolidate fields, support capital, seeds and techniques to replicate safe and effective agricultural models throughout the commune.
