US Man jumps into rapid river in Los Angeles to save his dog, but the dog swims to shore and he is rescued by helicopter.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) said on January 6 that it had successfully rescued a man who jumped into a river to save his dog during a storm. They arrived at the scene at Pacoima Wash River at 2:25 p.m. on January 5 after receiving a report and found the dog.

"The dog swam to safety and escaped the fast-moving waters," LAFD said.

A man was trapped in a raging river. A firefighter swung from a helicopter into the river and pulled the victim to safety. The video of the man's rescue has attracted more than 600,000 views on social media.

The man was conscious and was airlifted to a hospital for evaluation, LAFD said. The dog suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Los Angeles Animal Services facility for care.

"The dog is happy to be alive and is eager to be reunited with his owner," LAFD said.
